From abstract: Planning waste-disposal facilities and impoundments is complicated by karst carbonate terrane in the Ozarks. Thermal imagery (8-13 micrometer wavelength) and color infrared photography aid in identifying losing streams, sinkholes and hydrologic conditions encouraging collapse. Imagery and photography were acquired in Greene and Reynold Counties, Mo., in March 1972 and June 1973. Differences in thermal levels correlating with losing and gaining reaches of Logan Creek valley, Reynolds County, were not visually apparent in predawn March imagery but statistical analysis of predawn magnetic-tape data indicated greater variance in emitted energy from the losing reach than from the gaining reach.

From letter of transmittal: The results contained in this report are the product of investigations conducted during the past three months. These investigations were in extension of the work on which was based my report, as State geologist of Missouri, on the lead and zinc deposits of the whole State.

The following report covers investigations on sedimentary rocks of Middle Pennsylvanian age in northeastern Oklahoma, southeastern Kansas, and western Missouri. Distribution of uranium and other trace elements in these rocks was studied during 1955 and 1956.

Purpose and scope: This report has been prepared to document these significant floods for future hydraulic and hydrological planning; to provide streamflow information required for orderly development of river basins where the hazard of extreme flooding exists; and to further the general hydrologic knowledge available for Missouri rivers and streams. Streamflow data in the report include peak stages and discharges, flood hydrographs, flood-crest profiles, flood volumes, and flood-frequency information. Descriptions of the storm and of the damages resulting from these floods are given.

This report presents data on ground water in the Springfield-Salem plateaus in Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas. It contains maps, graphs, and tables.

From abstract: Sedimentary rocks of Cambrian and Ordovician age form a major aquifer system in most of Wisconsin and Iowa, northern Illinois, northwestern Indiana, southeastern Minnesota, and northern Missouri. Many metropolitan areas depend on the aquifer for all or part of their water supplies. Declines in potentiometric head have been large in the most heavily pumped areas, most notably Chicago, Milwaukee-Waukesha, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Des Moines.

From abstract: This report describes four species of Ostreidae from the Upper Cretaceous of the Gulf region. The zones that the species characterize lie either in the upper part of the Austin chalk or in beds of upper Austin age.
