Analysis for Oxide in Thorium Metal (open access)

Analysis for Oxide in Thorium Metal

Abstract. to estimate the oxygen picked up by thorium in casting a rapid method of running the acid insoluble content was developed. the quickest procedure consists of reacting with mixed acids, fuming with perchloric and filtration to separate the "free" thorium from the "combined". The precipitate is ignited and weighed as thorium dioxide.

Analysis of submarginal ore, Fawn Springs area, Bull Canyon District, San Miguel and Montrose Counties, Colorado

During a compilation of ore reserves at Bull Canyon, it was apparent from the grade of submarginal mineralization that this material might be a low-grade reserve of importance. Mr. Lewis Hazen requested a memorandum of the results of the analysis; this memorandum is a response to that request.

Atom Arrangements in Some Iron-Aluminum Solutions, Report No. 1

"Short-range order coefficients were measured at 300 and 400°C for iron-aluminum alloys containing 14.8, 18.2, and 20.0 atomic per cent aluminum. These alloys exhibited a strong preference for unlike near neighbors. The short-range order was greater at the lower temperature and increased as the Fe 3Al composition was approached."

The Corrosion of Various Stainless Steels in Synthetic Waste Solutions

Technical report describing the tests on types 309, 316, and 347 stainless steel. These steels were tested for a total of 779 to 828 hours in three different synthetic waste solutions. Results shoe that the best all-around corrosion resistance to the test conditions was exhibited by 316 stainless steel, but in one solution 347 stainless steel was more resistant. [From Abstract]

Design and Test of a Diaphragm Pump for Liquid Metals (open access)

Design and Test of a Diaphragm Pump for Liquid Metals

Technical report. From Abstract : "Details are provided on the construction and operation of a two-stage diaphragm pump successfully used for the first time in liquid metal service. From the results of 5,376 hr. test of the pump it was concluded that it is well suited to the pumping of liquid metals at low flow rates where pulsating flow can be tolerated and also where remote operation is required. Operating temperatures and pressures are limited only by the availability of suitable materials of construction."

The Determination of Indium in Indium Plutonium Solutions (open access)

The Determination of Indium in Indium Plutonium Solutions

Abstract: "A gravimetric procedure is described for the analysis of indium-plutonium solutions. This procedure consists of a preliminary separation of the plutonium as the peroxide, followed by the quantitative precipitation of indium diethyl dithio carbamate from a slightly acid solution. The precipitate is dried at 105 C and weighed. Recoveries of 99.4 - 100.5% with an average precision of 2.3/100 were obtained on known Pu-In solutions containing 5 - 50 mg of indium per sample."

Effect of Temperature on Uranium Recovery Columns Operation

Some data on the temperature effect in pulse columns are reviewed. New data obtained with the "vibrational" stirrer are reported.
