Construction and characterization of superhydrophobic wood coatings using one-step technique

Article describes how this study was aiming at enhancing the stain resistance and durability of varnish on wood surfaces, a super hydrophobic solution was created by blending the synthetic ZIF-8/paraffin with Hexadecyltrimethoxysilane at a specified mass ratio. This superhydrophobic mixture was then directly applied onto the wood varnish coating using a one-step method.

Lipid Droplets: Packing Hydrophobic Molecules Within the Aqueous Cytoplasm

Article discusses how lipid droplets, also known as oil bodies or lipid bodies, are plant organelles that compartmentalize neutral lipids as a hydrophobic matrix covered by proteins embedded in a phospholipid monolayer. Memory in Uncertainty: Web Preservation in the Polycrisis - A New Design Congress Report

This report was shared in relation to a presentation for the IIPC General Assembly and Web Archiving Conference held on May 10-12, 2023 in Hilversum, Netherlands. This report presents the findings of a study by The New Design Congress to investigate web archive practices, tools, integrity, and security. Their research finds that the field of web archiving and its landscape of tools and institutions are out of step with the realities of rising instability and complexity of the 21st century.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Richard Abe. Abe’s wife Yukiko is helping with this interview. Abe was born 29 May 1934 in Ewa, Hawaii, to Japanese immigrant parents. His father was the supervisor of the Ewa Sugar Plantation. He and his family were living on the island, 8 miles west of Pearl Harbor, when the Japanese attacked. Abe was 7 years old at the time, and he provides vivid details of his experiences, witnessing the bombing of military installations, being confined to his house, blackouts and his parents being directed to destroy any documents written in Japanese. From 1956 through 1958, Abe served in the US Army, 4th Infantry Division.
