She asks what is happening to our beautiful America, land of the free, discussing the student unrest not only on the campuses at Lawrence, Kansas where Larry attends and at the University of Texas where Lyndell attends but all over the country pointing to the war and draft as a continual dread for students. She advises that Glyn is doing fairly well, the Jack Quades are all right and asks after Mrs. Carswell.

A letter addressed to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated May 7, 1955. Carswell explains his use of generic paper due to his exhausted supply of report forms, and submits a report listing the names of subjects who reported for the month of April, 1955 noting that their parole status is regular.

A letter written to Governor Pat Brown, Sacramento, California, from J. R. Black, Judge 42nd Judicial District Court, Abilene, Texas, dated May 7, 1959. Black makes a request for Pardon for Subject 17,095.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman Taylor County Parole Board, from David W. Ratliff, The Senate of the State of Texas, Austin, dated May 7, 1959. Ratliff acknowledges his receipt of letters from Carswell dated May 2 and May 4 and expresses his appreciation for the thoughts expressed therein. He advises Carswell of the local support shown for the new state reformatory for Abilene as the reason for his actions and then addresses "a definite lack of leadership in Austin".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Carswell Agency, Abilene, Texas, from Coke R. Stevenson, Austin, Texas, dated May 7, 1948. Stevenson announces that he has opened his campaign headquarters and is actively campaigning for the office of United States Senator. "I shall be glad to have a letter from you and any suggestions you may have as to how I can best advance my cause in your community."

A letter written to Mrs. Beatrice Jackson, Los Angeles, California, from T. N. Carswell, dated May 7, 1970. Carswell advises of the receipt of a notice from the City relative to delinquent taxes on Lot 24 advising Jackson of the $148.80 still owed him.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Omar Burleson, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated May 7, 1959. Burleson defends his actions regarding the Kennedy Labor Bill and his advises of his intentions to vote for the McClellan amendments but notes that there is a bill pending by Barden of North Carolina [Graham Arthur Barden] which would come near to meeting the present needs.
