Photograph of resulting heavy rains. There was Approximately 6 inches of rain fall above this site in the period of four days. The rain on April 27 was 2 inches which fall in twenty-five minutes, April 29th was 3 inches which fell in one hour, with April 30th was 1 inch. Water rose approximately seven feet above the drawdown structure. Note the water being discharged out of the 24 inch drawdown structure. OK-10, 848.

Wind, Wind Erosion, Sand Storms and Dunes

Photograph of a Yucca plant on hummock in "blow-out" hole of former cotton field. Wind erosion has been successfully controlled by strips of brush. Area was spot-sodded in January 1941 to sandhill blue stem and brush strips were placed in November 1940. OK-8153.
