Part I describes the results of a preliminary survey of the entire coastal and offshore region between Nome and Point Barrow: Part II consists of a more detailed evaluation of the Cape Thompson-Cape Seppings area; and Part III is a theoretical consideration of the effect of the ocean upon the temperature and distribution of permafrost. A report about the irradiated ultraviolet light emitted when thorium reacts with morin. The effect on the fluorescence of such variables as concentration of acid, alcohol, thorium, morin, and complex; time, temperature, and wavelength of exciting light are studied to determine experimental conditions yielding maximum fluorescence.

The following report evaluates the fluorescent system of the reaction between morin and thorium in weakly acid solutions in order to form a stable yellow complex which fluoresces yellow-green when its solutions are irradiated with ultraviolet light. The system is evaluated as a basis for the quantitative determination of trace amounts of thorium, and some of the theoretical and mathematical relationships between fluorescence and light absorption are also included.
