Patent for an improvement in drop-pilots or cow-catchers for street or steam-railways to allow the cow-catcher to stay higher above the track and be dropped in an emergency to catch large objects and prevent them from being trapped under the wheels. The improvement also contains a device for raising and lowering the cow-catcher, a mechanism for operating the brakes and whistle interdependently, and a single lever for the operator to use to control the various mechanisms.
