A Proposed Industrial Arts General Shop Curriculum for Pauline G. Hughes Middle School, Burleson Independent School District

This study was made to gather data and information to aid the Burleson Independent School District in initiating an industrial arts general shop program in the Pauline G. Hughes Middle School. The data and information were obtained from the Texas Education Agency, the Burleson Independent School District records, the vocational director, the assistant superintendent, a questionnaire, and the Brodhead-Garrett 1976-1977 Catalog. The majority of the general shop programs in the north Texas area conduct classes five days a week for fifty-five minutes a day and accommodate twenty-four students per class. Furthermore, the majority of the general shop programs offer three units of instruction per year and teach one unit of instruction each quarter.

A Comparative Study of the Social and Academic Status of Private Pre-school and Public School Children in the Second Year of a Dallas Elementary School

This study will endeavor to make a comparative study of seventeen children in the second grade in an elementary school in Dallas that attended private schools and omitted the first year of the public school, and seventeen children that are in the second grade after completing the first grade in the public school. The purpose of the study in comparing the social and academic status of the two groups is to determine if the non-scholastic child after a year of private school is able to adjust and accomplish an academic and social status on the level of the second year of the public school as compared with children of school age that have been through the first year and are now in their second year.

"The problem of this thesis is to determine through survey and comparative study the effect of the activity program of Denton's El Centro, the youth center, on the youth of the City of Denton...methods of operation and internal organization of youth centers, the purpose of the centers and the results of some of the activities are outlined. Members of the Denton youth center were interviewed; the information gained from the interviews was recorded on prepared questionnaires. Various types of activities at Denton's youth center are discussed. The study also attempts to reveal by means of tables those activities which are more important to the male youth of Denton.
