This is a letter from the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by Charles B. Moore and is addressed to Mary Ann Moore. In this letter, Moore details his trip to Colorado for Mary Ann Moore and Laura Jernigan. He notes the town they are staying in at present, Manitou, and mentions their living quarters. He details the activities they have been experiencing such as hiking, searching for caves, and riding electric trolley's up to Pike's peak. He discusses that once on top of the peak, Linnet decided it would be great to stay in one of the little cottages that line the valley. During their stay in one of these cottages, Linnet, Charles, and their fellow travelers meet an interesting Texan. Charles states to Mary that his only regret is that she and the rest of the family are not able to experience the wonders he is seeing in Colorado. He mentions their plans for that day and describes the landscape for Mary. He discusses the railroad tunnels and the people he sees traveling up and down Pike's Peak on mules. This is a letter from the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by Charles B. Moore and is addressed to Mary Ann Moore. In this letter, Moore discusses the days agenda and tells Mary they are getting ready for breakfast. He details a conversation he had with the Texan who is bunking next to their room and shares her plans, past and future, for this trip. He notes that they will have a picnic today and that he is collecting items from every where for Mary. He mentions that he met a woman who knew Will Wallace in Grand Junction. He also met an old Tennessean and "got a dollar worth out of him" in conversation. They plan to travel across the mountains on Sunday and do not know yet what route they will take for that expedition. This is a letter from the Charles B. Moore Collection. In this letter, Moore discusses the goings-on during his trip to Colorado. He details to Mary Ann that they received her letter yesterday and are, at present, writing letter to her and to friends back home. He mentions that he has received correspondence from Tom and Stella from Salt Lake and from their return trip from Salt Lake which found them again in Manitou. He thanks Mary Ann and Laura Jernigan for taking care of the home front while he and Linnet experience Colorado. He notes what he and Linnet have been up to while in Grand Junction. Moore discusses the kin they have visited and stayed with who live in or near Grand Junction. He also discusses society in Colorado and how women are more self-reliant and have the right to vote. She informs Moore about the reasons for the family's delay in continuing correspondence with the Moore family since their visit to Colorado. She details the failures they had last season due to grasshoppers and hopes that this season would be better than the last. Interview with John Connolly, veteran of the Civilian Conservation Corps. The interview includes Connolly's personal experiences of childhood in Whitney and Amarillo, Texas, Civilian Conservation Corps camps in Cleburne and Hillsboro, Texas, and Grand Junction, Colorado, as well as his World War II-era experience in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Additionally, Connolly discusses his family's difficulties in the Great Depression, his decision to enroll in the Civilian Conservation Corps, his work as a tool and dye manufacturer, and Republican Party politics in Dallas County.

Criteria for Outlining Areas Favorable for Uranium Deposits in Parts of Colorado and Utah
Abstract: Most of the uranium deposits in the Uravan and Gateway mining districts are in the persistent upper sandstone stratum of the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation. Areas in which this stratum is predominantly lenticular have been differentiated from areas in which the stratum is predominantly nonlenticular. The most favorable ground for uranium deposits is in areas of lenticular sandstone where the stratum is underlain by continuous altered greenish-gray mudstone. Ore is localized in scour-and-fill sandstone beds within favorable areas of lenticular sandstone. Regional control of the movement of ore-bearing solutions in the principal ore-bearing sandstone zone is indicated by belts of discontinuously altered mudstone transitional in a northerly and southerly direction from an area of unaltered mudstone to areas of continuously altered mudstone ; and an area of unaltered mudstone in which no ore deposits are found and an increase in size, number, and grade of ore deposits from areas of discontinuously altered to continuously altered mudstone. Discrete regional patterns of ore deposits and altered mudstone are associated with Tertiary structures; where these structures and favorable host rocks occur in juxtaposition, regional controls appear to have localized ore deposits.

Preliminary Report on Diamond-Drill Exploration of Parts of Blue and Moon Mesas, Mesa County, Colorado
From abstract and summary: The Blue and Moon Mesa areas are about 13 miles southeast of Gateway, Mesa County, Colo. Total production of carnotite ore from the Blue and Moon Mesa areas has been about 1,000 short tons that averaged about 0.25 percent U30Oand 1.75 percent V205. Most of this production was obtained from 1940 to 1943 and in 1949. The U. S. Geological Survey explored the northern parts of these areas by diamond drilling between August 9 and December 14, 1950. The Survey drilled 113 holes, totalling 16,039 feet. This drilling was mostly wide-spaced and was done to obtain geologic information.

Large-Scale Geologic Guides to Carnotite Deposits in the Uravan and Gateway Districts, Montrose and Mesa Counties, Colorado
Abstract: Results of detailed mapping of the Salt Wash sandstone member of the Morrison formation in the Uravan and Gateway districts, Montrose and Mesa Counties, Colo., suggest that large areas containing both lenticular bedding in the ore-bearing sandstone and persistently altered mudstone beneath the sandstone are generally favorable for carnotite deposits.
