Caption: "Jackson County Landmark established in 1890 - the Martha Mercantile Store - was destroyed by fire Wednesday after the building apparently was struck by a bolt of lighting. The longtime general merchandise store, which had added a gas station for modern times, was owned by Mrs. C. H. Doughty. She estimated loss at $25,000."
