In 1968, then-Vice President Hubert Humphrey won the Democratic Party’s nomination for president and embarked upon a national tour to build support for his candidacy. Included amongst the many stops he made were visits to Fort Worth and Dallas, captured in this footage. After landing at Carswell Field, Humphrey visits with several Texas politicians, including Governor of Texas John Connally and United States Congressman Jim Wright of Fort Worth. He then delivers speeches at a public rally and a campaign dinner. Next, Humphrey flies to Dallas, where he speaks at another campaign rally. First Lady Lady Bird Johnson also makes an appearance.

Following the 1960 presidential election, a special election was held to fill the United States Senate seat vacated by then Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson. This telecast from May 1961 promotes the candidacy of Jim Wright, who was then serving in the United States House of Representatives from Texas’ 12th congressional district. The election drew a field of 71 potential candidates, with Republican John G. Tower narrowly defeating interim appointee and Democrat William Blakely in a runoff election. (As a result, Tower became the first Republican senator from Texas since Reconstruction.) Wright finished in third place.

Claudia Stravato was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She attended a mostly Mexican American high school in Downtown Dallas and then graduate with a BA and MA in political science from West Texas A&M University (then West Texas State University). She has been a lifelong advocate for voting rights and women’s health rights. She served as CEO of the Amarillo Planned Parenthood from 1999 to 2009. She has worked in numerous political campaigns at the state and local levels and various government agencies.

Interview with Frances Rizo, a community activist and civic volunteer from Dallas, Texas. In her interview, Rizo discusses her family background, experiencing discrimination in school, civic engagement, politics, and working in broadcasting.

Patricia A. Thomas was born in 1957 in Andrews, Texas, where she grew up. She entered elementary school in an integrated school where many of her classmates as well as some teachers physically and verbally abused the African American students. Thomas first attended Lincoln Elementary and then Jack and Jill Elementary. In junior high and high school, Thomas adapted many black nationalists or “radical” viewpoints, which led her to call for the teaching of African American history in her high school. She graduated from Andrews high school in 1976. After high school, Thomas moved to Dallas where she attended Bishop College. She subsequently lived in various communities that included Big Springs, Odessa, Amarillo, and Seminole, Texas.

Interview with Ricardo Medrano, a former city councilman from Dallas, Texas. In the interview, Medrano discusses his family background and childhood, political activism, labor activism, the Chicano movement, and his time as an elected leader in Dallas.

Interview with Richard Menchaca, an educator, author and businessman from Dallas, Texas. In his interview, Menchaca discusses his upbringing in a segregated San Antonio, experiences as a student athlete, working as a teacher in Dallas, and his Chicano activism, including being president of LULAC.

Interview with Robert Medrano, businessman and elected official from Dallas, Texas. Medrano is the son of Francisco "Pancho" Medrano and brother of Ricardo Medrano, also local politicians. In his interview, Medrano discusses his his upbringing in the "Little Mexico" section of Dallas, his family's political activities, and Chicano activism in the 1960s and 1970s.

Interview with Trinidad "Trini" Garza, a civic leader and businessman from Dallas, Texas. In the interview, Garza discusses his early life, education, migrant work, military service, studying engineering at Texas A&M, his community service and activism in Dallas, and his work on the school board.

Presented by the Humble Oil & Refining Company, this production reviews college football highlights from the Southwest Conference during the 1956 season. Narrator Kern Tips recaps regular season conference games between the Baylor University Bears, Texas Tech University Red Raiders, University of Arkansas Razorbacks, Southern Methodist University Mustangs, Rice University Owls, University of Texas at Austin Longhorns, Texas A&M University Aggies, and Texas Christian University. It also takes a break from game highlights to feature several members of the 1956 All-Southwest honor team. At the conclusion, the film follows Southwest Conference champion TCU to the Cotton Bowl Classic game against Syracuse University.
