[Cochran Family Films, No. 8 - Holidays and Community Events, 1959]

This home movie documents the daily lives and activities of the Cochran family including holidays and community events. The film begins with an Easter celebration including hunting eggs and rides at a small carnival (00:00-01:20) and the family picnicking at a lake and children swimming in a small pool (01:20-03:52). The family then observes a December 1959 parade celebrating the opening of the Stemmons Freeway in Dallas. The parade includes marching bands and drill teams, actress Yvonne de Carlo, KRLD-TV's "The Sky King," children in Native American costume, clowns, antique cars, a military tank, the Dallas Sheriff's Posse, and a float with a large Interstate 35 (I-35) sign (03:52-07:23). The family then views an outdoor Christmas exhibit (7:23-7:47) and celebrates Christmas (07:47-15:39). The Cochran children receive jumpsuits advertising their father's business which read "Plumbing by Jay."
