LSI-11 based pulse height analyzer. [For processing gamma spectra from neutron activated rabbit samples] (open access)

LSI-11 based pulse height analyzer. [For processing gamma spectra from neutron activated rabbit samples]

A remote-local controlled 4K channel, 32 bits per channel pulse height analyzer (PHA) built around a Fortran programmed LSI-11 is described. The PHA is made up of an LSI-11 microcomputer with 20K of memory, an interface to a Northern Scientific ADC, an 8 bit parallel link to a master LSI-11 computer, and a serial 9600 baud link to a shared DEC VT55 graphics terminal. There are 4 PHAs all networked to a remote master computer that make up the total PHA system. This PHA system will gather X-ray and ..gamma..-ray spectra data from neutron activated rabbit samples for the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory NURE project. NURE is an acronym standing for the National Uranium Resource Evaluation. The goal of NURE is to conduct a multidisciplinary survey of the uranium mineral resources in the United States and publish an assessment of the national uranium reserves by mid-1981. The purpose of LLL's part is to process the samples taken from the western 1/4 of the U.S. and publish the results. A secondary purpose of the analysis is to identify any other elements in the sample for future reference.

NURE rabbit and card reader (open access)

NURE rabbit and card reader

The NURE Rabbit and IBM Card Reader is a LSI-11 based microcomputer system. The purpose of the rabbit and card reader is to read the drilled code (ID) on the polyethylene rabbit, read the punched data on the traveler card, and then store the code (ID) and the card data together as a record in a file on a floppy diskette. A record is 82 words long with the first 2 words being the rabbit ID number. The components involved are the card reader, the rabbit reader, the LSI-11 microcomputer and chassis, the ADM-3 terminal, and a dual floppy disk drive. The rabbit reader is made up of a laser light source that shines into the holes drilled into the rabbit. The software was written entirely in Fortran IV and the name of the program is IDJ.SAV. The operating system is RT-11. Detailed operating instructions are given. 1 figure. (RWR)

Role of statistical linearization in the solution of nonlinear stochastic equations (open access)

Role of statistical linearization in the solution of nonlinear stochastic equations

The solution of a generalized Langevin equation is referred to as a stochastic process. If the external forcing function is Gaussian white noise, the forward Kolmogarov equation yields the transition probability density function. Nonlinear problems must be handled by approximation procedures e.g., perturbation theories, eigenfunction expansions, and nonlinear optimization procedures. After some comments on the first two of these, attention is directed to the third, and the method of statistical linearization is used to demonstrate a relation to the former two. Nonlinear stochastic systems exhibiting sustained or forced oscillations and the centered nonlinear Schroedinger equation in the presence of Gaussian white noise excitation are considered as examples. 5 figures, 2 tables.
