Thermal Stability of Decaborane and of a Commercial Ethyl Decaborane (HEF-3) in the Range 202 Degrees to 252 Degrees C
Report discussing an investigation of the thermal stabilities of a commercial grade of ethyl decaborane and decaborane at two temperatures. Equations developed from the results of the experiment are also provided. Ethyl decaborane was found to be more stable to pyrolysis than pentaborane but less stable than decaborane.

Investigation of separated flows in supersonic and subsonic streams with emphasis on the effect of transition
Report presents the results of experimental and theoretical research conducted on flow separation associated with steps, bases, compression corners, curved surfaces, shock-wave boundary-layer reflections, and configurations producing leading-edge separation. Results were obtained from pressure-distribution measurements, shadowgraph observations, high-speed motion pictures, and oil-film studies. The maximum scope of measurement encompassed Mach numbers between 0.4 and 3.6, and length Reynolds numbers between 4,000 and 5,000,000.

Zero-angle-of-attack performance of two-dimensional inlets near Mach number 3
An extensive program was undertaken to investigate the effect of several geometric variables on the performance of two-dimensional inlets. This investigation included inlets having single-wedge, double-wedge, and isentropic compression ramps with various side-plate configurations and subsonic diffusers. The tests were conducted over a range of Reynolds number based on inlet height from 0.50 to 2.67(sup x)10(sup 6). Generally, the performance levels of the two-dimensional inlets were somewhat below those obtained previously with comparable axisymmetric models. At Mach number 3.05 the optimum total-pressure recovery was obtained with an isentropic inlet which compressed the external flow to a Mach number of 1.88. Rectangular side plates and a long high-exit-Mach-number subsonic diffuser with filleted corners were used with this inlet. A critical total-pressure recovery of 0.71 was realized with a corresponding mass-flow ratio of 0.965. Subcritical stability to a mass-flow ratio of 0.60 was obtained.

Factors affecting flow distortions produced by supersonic inlets
Report presenting the typical effects of flow distortions on turbojet-engine performance and how flow distortions can be reduced by reducing the distortion entering the inlet diffuser and by improving the amount of mixing that generally occurs in the subsonic diffuser. Sources of distortion in the supersonic inlet are described and steps are suggested that might be taken to reduce their effects.

Some aspects of supersonic inlet stability
Report presenting the achievement of supersonic inlet stabilization for Mach numbers up to approximately 2.0 by careful consideration of the possible buzz-triggering conditions. Results regarding the inlet flow-stabilization techniques, variable-geometry techniques for stable flow regulation, and effect of turbojet engine on inlet stability are provided.
