It consists of 30 acres of pine trees released by girding undesireable hardwoods in 1953. A selective cut was made in 1957. Excellent natural reproduction is evident froma good seed crop in 1957. Photograph of stubble mulching. Stubble mulching on wheat land. Guy Schroder is shown with the wheat drill he uses on stubble mulched land. It is a 16-foot, 10-inch Van Brundt drill that sows a strip 13 feet and 4 inches wide. It has 10 inch row spacings and 14 inch disc openers. Schroder is a cooperator with the District and started the Soil Conservation Service program on this farm in 1950.

Photograph of the combining of vetch and Abruzzi rye for seed on the former idle land. Last year Bermal Hickman had 150 acres of vetch that grazed 130 head of cattle from November 20 to March 20. He said that the crop could have carried twice as many cattle. He estimates his yield of vetch seed, from 40 acres combined, at 60,000 pounds. He practices crop rotation, deffered grazing on 600 acres, trashy tillings and all fields that should be are terraced. He farms 780 acres under a 5 year cash lease with E. P. Kilgore, Brownwood, the owner. On the tractor are, left and right, Malcolm McKeehan, Boss (Bill) McKeehan and their father, an employee of Hickman's. TX-43, 108.

Photograph of a residential areas were hard hit by flood waters of Mountain Creek. Water stood 8 feet deep around these houses. Land treatment and structural measures to be installed on Caston and Mountain Creek to prevent flooding of agricultural land will help the city residents too. OK-1341-3.

Photograph of flood storage. Flood storage in Site # 25, Calvary Watershed. This site has a drainage area of 640 acres, 158 acre-feet of floodwater storage and 18 inches outfall pipe. An 8 inch rain occurred above this site on the morning of August 19, 1961. The storage water level was approximately 3 feet below emergency spillway crest. No flooding or scouring occurred below this site. OK-1438-10.
