This episode was recorded on March 15, 2019, exactly 80 years to the day since Nazi troops descended on Dr. Reban's hometown. Dr. Reban shares vivid memories of his childhood in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia during World War II, as well as the aftermath of the war and its impact on his own life and that of his family. Dr. Reban also discusses the courses he's taught for OLLI at UNT, many based on his own powerful life story, and how he first became involved with our program.

Gutterman discusses the ways in which women during the post-war period, despite being married to men, engaged within the lesbian community, often forming romantic and sexual relationships out of intimate friendships. She discusses major differences in the social experiences of queer men and women, as well as experiences of coming out in the 1950s and 1960s.
