Herrera, describing Herrera's emotions towards the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling supporting the progression towards abolition of Hispanic discrimination in Texas. "The word is beautiful and culminates the heartbreaking efforts of more than a dozen lawyers who worked for more than twenty years to overrule the iron clad opinions of the highest Texas courts."

Laurel to Albert Armendariz, National President of the League of United Latin American Citizens addressing the reasoning behind the sixty day requirement of the submission of names of candidates running for the office of national president: "To notify the national office sixty days prior to the national convention is merely to appraise all the councils throughout the League of the names of the persons so interested." This resolution was created to help with "the matter of so called 'dark horses' who, by reason of political strategy and maneuver withold until the last minute the placing of their names in nomination."

[Letter from John J. Herrera to Luciano Santoscoy - 1954-05-15]

Letter to Luciano Santoscoy from John J. Herrera. Herrera gives Santoscoy details of the United States Supreme Court vs. Pete Hernandez (the case fighting against the practice of discrimination of Latin Americans from Grand & Petit juries, and as Grand jury commissioners) and the "glorious victory." Herrera tells Santoscoy, "I think you should print the whole decision in LULAC News for our posterity also giving credit to Carlos and Gus for their perseverance work and use of their own funds to the end that the Hernandez case be won." Herrera also tells Santoscoy that he will not be running for National President of LULAC as he plans to run for the Texas Legislature from Harris County. Herrera mentions in the letter the personal phone call from Senator Daniel Price announcing the Hernandez case victory.
