Flood Prevention Treatment

Photograph of flood prevention treatment on sandstone Creek Watershed permitted Roy E. Baker to put this 16-acre bottom land field into productive use. He got five cuttings of alfalfa-1729 bales - during the dry 1952 summer. Growth for the fourth cutting was without rain. Baker says the detention dam in his pasture furnished stock water at a time when other supplies were failing.

Flood Control Detention Structure

Photograph of Owl Creek Site #4. Dentention Reservooir, Drainage area - 300 cc. Permanent pool. 1.13" runoff with 6.88 surface acres. Flood pool - 4.09" runoff with 19.50 surface acres. Total storage - 5.22" runoff. The flood pool which is 8 ft. in depth has a discharge rate from 3` c.f.s. to 37 c.f.s. from 18" pipe. During the stormof May 9-10 (both pools were empty except the borrow pit 15.5 iinches of rain full in this watershed and water discharge, for a short time, through the emergeny spillway at a depth of 1.8 ft.

Flood Control Detention Dam Structure

Photograph of view of partially completed dam on Detention Reservoir Site No. 12. This reservoir will work in conjunction with the reservoir on Site No. 11. Site No. 11 could be seen in this photograph were it not for the trees at the left and distant right background. A diversion terrace will pass to the right in the immidate foreground and will empty into this reservoir. Drainage area of this reservoir is 410 acres with 27 acre feet in the permanent pool and 167 acre feet in the flood pool. Dam will be 23 feet high. Release rate - 6 c.f.p.s. Will have a vegatative spillway.
