The paper was published for the purpose of "enlivening the monotonous, at times almost unbearably eventless life of Camp Ford" (J. P. Robbins, Preface to The Old Flag). Included are camp news articles, fiction, poems, humorous articles, advertisements, and obituaries. The manuscript was originally hand lettered and illustrated on unruled letter paper.
