Radiation control standards and procedures (open access)

Radiation control standards and procedures

This manual contains the Radiation Control Standards'' and Radiation Control Procedures'' at Hanford Operations which have been established to provide the necessary control radiation exposures within Irradiation Processing Department. Provision is also made for including, in the form of Bulletins'', other radiological information of general interest to IPD personnel. The purpose of the standards is to establish firm radiological limits within which the Irradiation Processing Department will operate, and to outline our radiation control program in sufficient detail to insure uniform and consistent application throughout all IPD facilities. Radiation Control Procedures are intended to prescribe the best method of accomplishing an objective within the limitations of the Radiation Control Standards. A procedure may be changed at any time provided the suggested changes is generally agreeable to management involved, and is consistent with department policies and the Radiation Control Standards.

Electronics Counting Rooms for Nuclear Research (open access)

Electronics Counting Rooms for Nuclear Research

Abstract: "This report describes six electronics areas at the Radiation Laboratory (Berkeley and Livermore) that are being successfully used with various particle acceleration for nuclear research. The electronics equipment, consisting of pulse amplifiers, scalers, coincidence circuits, pulse-height analyzers, automatic recording equipment, high-voltage supplies, etc., is arranged in such a manner that most experiments can be quickly set up, and a number of people can run experiments simultaneously. Advantage and limitations of these areas are discussed."

UPSTREAM DIFFUSION OF RADIOACTIVE GASES (open access)

UPSTREAM DIFFUSION OF RADIOACTIVE GASES

OTS). The situation of a leak of sctiwe material into a flowing air- stream presents the problem of determining possible upstream diffusion of the activity. In a constant velocity one directional flow involving three dimensional diffusion from a point source, the upstream concentration is severely limited compared to that downstream. For all practical values of the flow velocity and diffusion coefficients, this upstream concentration is negligible. It is to be noted, however, that the velocity profile of a flow in a finite channel involves points of very low velocity, and at these points the diffusion effect might predominate, resulting in some upstream diffusion. Even in this case, unknown convection effects would be more important than diffusion effects. (auth)

Effect of boundary-layer control and inlet lip shape on the performance of a twin-scoop air-induction system at Mach numbers from 0 to 1.9 (open access)

Effect of boundary-layer control and inlet lip shape on the performance of a twin-scoop air-induction system at Mach numbers from 0 to 1.9

Report presenting an experimental investigation to determine the effect of boundary-layer control and inlet lip shape on the performance of a side-inlet air-induction system for a fighter-type airplane. Two methods of boundary layer control and three inlet lip shapes were investigated at a range of Mach numbers and mass-flow ratios. Results regarding net propulsive thrust are also provided.
