Arabidopsis thaliana EARLY RESPONSIVE TO DEHYDRATION 7 Localizes to Lipid Droplets via Its Senescence Domain (open access)

Arabidopsis thaliana EARLY RESPONSIVE TO DEHYDRATION 7 Localizes to Lipid Droplets via Its Senescence Domain

This article includes a proteomics analysis of Lipid Droplets (LDs) isolated from drought-stressed Arabidopsis leaves and identifying EARLY RESPONSIVE TO DEHYDRATION 7 (ERD7) as a putative LD protein. Observations provide new insight to ERD7 and the SD-containing family of proteins in plants and suggest that ERD7 may be involved in functional aspects of plant stress response that also include localization to the LD surface.

Diffusion Entropy vs. Multiscale and Rényi Entropy to Detect Progression of Autonomic Neuropathy

This article reviews the literature to argue the importance of the occurrence of crucial events in the dynamics of physiological processes. Crucial events are interpreted as short time intervals of turbulence, and the time distance between two consecutive crucial events is a waiting time distribution density with an inverse power law (IPL) index µ, with µ < 3 generating non-stationary behavior.

Dual activity of anthocyanidin reductase supports the dominant plant proanthocyanidin extension unit pathway (open access)

Dual activity of anthocyanidin reductase supports the dominant plant proanthocyanidin extension unit pathway

This article presents research on genetic and biochemical analyses that shows ANR has dual activity and is involved not only in the production of (−)-epicatechin starter units but also in the formation of 2,3-cis-leucocyanidin to serve as (−)-epicatechin extension units. The results find that differences in the product specificities of ANRs account for the presence/absence of PA polymerization and the compositions of PAs across plant species

Ignition delay times of NH3/DME blends at high pressure and low DME fraction: RCM experiments and simulations (open access)

Ignition delay times of NH3/DME blends at high pressure and low DME fraction: RCM experiments and simulations

Authors of the article describe how autoignition delay times of ammonia/dimethyl ether (NH3/DME) mixtures were measured in a rapid compression machine with DME fractions of 0, 2 and 5 and 100% in the fuel. Analysis of the mechanism indicates that this 'early DME oxidation' generates reactive species that initiate the oxidation of ammonia, which in turn begins heat release that raises the temperature and accelerates the oxidation process towards ignition. This is the accepted manuscript version of the published article.

Quantum algorithm for electronic band structures with local tight-binding orbitals (open access)

Quantum algorithm for electronic band structures with local tight-binding orbitals

Article says that while the main thrust of quantum computing research in materials science is to accurately measure the classically intractable electron correlation effects due to Coulomb repulsion, designing optimal quantum algorithms for simpler problems with well-understood solutions is a useful tactic to advance our quantum “toolbox”. In this paper, the authors adopt a direct space approach, using a novel hybrid first/second-quantized qubit mapping which allows us to construct a single Hamiltonian, and a single cost-function, suitable for solving the entire electronic band structure.

A role for ascorbate conjugates of (+)-catechin in proanthocyanidin polymerization (open access)

A role for ascorbate conjugates of (+)-catechin in proanthocyanidin polymerization

Article describes how both biochemically and genetically, that ascorbate (AsA) is an alternative “starter unit” to flavan-3-ol monomers for leucocyanidin-derived (+)-catechin subunit extension in the Arabidopsis thaliana anthocyanidin synthase (ans) mutant. The authors' findings advance the knowledge of (+)-catechin-type PA extension and indicate that PA oligomerization does not necessarily proceed by sequential addition of a single extension unit. AsA-[C]n defines a new type of PA intermediate which we term “sub-PAs”.

Seedling Chloroplast Responses Induced by N-Linolenoylethanolamine Require Intact G-Protein Complexes (open access)

Seedling Chloroplast Responses Induced by N-Linolenoylethanolamine Require Intact G-Protein Complexes

This article shows that the activity of N-linolenoylethanolamine (NAE 18:3) requires an intact G-protein complex. Specifically, genetic ablation of the Gβγ dimer or loss of the full set of atypical Gα subunits strongly attenuates an NAE-18:3–induced degreening of cotyledons in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) seedlings. This effect involves, at least in part, transcriptional regulation of chlorophyll biosynthesis and catabolism genes. In addition, there is feedforward transcriptional control of G-protein signaling components and G-protein interactors. These results are consistent with NAE 18:3 being a lipid signaling molecule in plants with a requirement for G-proteins to mediate signal transduction, a situation similar, but not identical, to the action of NAE endocannabinoids in animal systems.
