McConnell and Atwood [F. M. McConnell, Julian Atwood] confiding that they were "very anxious" to get Carswell to "take up and carry on" and offers his support if Carswell joins them. Davis handwrites a postscript advising that "we have two Jeff Davises here" and requests that Carswell be sure to include the box number on the envelope.

Jenkens acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell regarding the proposition from the United Texas Drys. Jenkens conveys his high regard for Carswell's work and his admiration for Carswell. Jenkens expresses sadness regarding the death of Mrs. Bob Walker.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Lyndon B. Johnson, United States Senate, Office of the Democratic Leader, dated July 6, 1953. Johnson expresses his appreciation for the recommendation from Carswell regarding The Bricker Amendment and advises of his support of "its aims and principles as they are generally understood". Johnson advises of the compromise made in the resolution by the Judiciary Committee between the S. J. Res. 1 by Bricker and S. J. Res. 43 by Watkins. He advises of his need to study the hearings since he was not a member of the Judiciary Committee and was not able to participate in the hearings.

A letter written to Governor Allan Shivers, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated August 6, 1955. Carswell advises of the one purpose he has in writing this letter which is to express the hope that the National Committeeman selected will be one of "our color" noting that there is already some deflection in their ranks, and should one not of their number be named National Committeeman, he fears the hurt will be severe.

A letter written to Mr. Hugh Prather, State Democratic Executive Committeeman, Dallas, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, dated August 6, 1956. Carswell expands upon a suggestion made by Prather regarding the creation of a permanent organization for conservative Democrats of Dallas County by suggesting the creation of a statewide organization and establishing Dallas county as the headquarters. He offers congratulations to Prather and Ed Drake for their "great victories in May".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Wright Morrow, Houston, Texas, dated September 6, 1956. Morrow acknowledges his receipt of the copy of Carswell's letter of September 1st that he wrote to Congressman Martin Dies describing it as a fine letter and expressing his appreciation for Carswell's interest. He then expounds upon the political situation of Senator Daniel and the unknown time of the special election which is causing the delay of his own announcement of intentions. He requests advice on the situation from Carswell and from others that are interested from his part of the state.

A letter written to Mr. R. H. Johnson, New York City, N. Y., from T. N. Carswell, Sec.-Mgr. [Abilene Chamber of Commerce], dated July 6, 1938. Carswell expresses his appreciation for the information Johnson supplied and advises him that Mr. Dillingham had put in a call to him. He confirms that the Brown Crumer Company was awarded the job at a fee approximating 1%.

A letter written to T. N. Carswell from Claude Lloyd, dated December 6, 1957. Lloyd describes his Christmas adventures with his children and grandchildren and requests that Carswell send a Poinsettia to Claudine and Ollie Lena Olsen for him. He then reminisces about the last Christmas Carswell and he had together shooting Roman Candles at each other, "you and Gib against Jake and me" (Jake [J. D. Sandefer, Jr.], Gib [Sandefer, Gilbert Bryan]).

Anderson issues an invitation to trustees to attend the service as E. M. Collier receives an honorary doctorate degree from Hardin-Simmons University.

Woolridge advises Headquarters of the resignation of Mrs. Longnecker requesting that an inspector "come out and check over" their Board and give recommendations. Page handwrites, in red pencil, orders to send CAS [T. N. Carswell] to El Paso No. 4. A handwritten note at the top of the telegram is in regards to Mrs. Rose D. Longnecker.

Walter on the duties of Clerical Audit Supervisor.

A letter written to a parolee/inmate in Weldon, Texas from T. N. Carswell, Chairman of the Taylor County Parole Board, dated September 6, 1954. Carswell advises Subject 108,345 that there is no change of date for reviewing his request. He explains that when he broke his parole he had to start over from when he was released on parole, that the Board requires a minimum time to be served by those who violate Parole before they will again consider them for release. He advises Subject to grit his teeth and take his situation in stride with good grace.

A letter addressed to the Honorable John Ben Shepperd, Attorney General, Austin, Texas, from Wiley L. Caffey, Abilene, Texas, dated January 6, 1956. Caffey requests advisement by Shepperd on whether or not the setting aside of a sentence by the court in the discussed case restores citizenship and entitles the person convicted to vote.

A letter addressed to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, Austin, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Taylor County Parole Board, dated July 6, 1957. Carswell requests a supply of Monthly Report forms, advises of his exhausted supply and the reason, therefore, of his request that they accept this monthly report on parolees on regular paper.
