[Diego Velázquez bronze equestrian sculpture by artist Constance Whitney Warren on UNT's campus]

Photograph of the Diego Velázquez bronze equestrian sculpture by artist Constance Whitney Warren on UNT's campus. The ten foot sculpture depicts the Spanish artist (who lived from 1599-1660) sitting on top of a horse that has its rigth front hoof lifted. Velázquez is holding on to the reins of the horse and is depicted wearing an equestrian outfit reminiscent of his time such as a large hat with a feather, a cape, gloves, and riding boots. A painters palette and paint brushes are also depicted and included on the sculptures large base at the foot of Velázquez atop the horse. The sculpture appears to be a green color due to the oxidization of the bronze over time. The back of Sycamore Hall and large green trees are visible in the background. The sculpture is surrounded by two bushes with bright pink cherry blossoms. The plaque situated on the base of the sculpture reads "Equestrian Portrait of Diego Velázquez, Constance Whitney Warren, Gift of the Harlan Crow Family."
