French trumpet works comprise a large portion of the contemporary standard repertoire for the instrument, and they frequently present unique stylistic and interpretive challenges to performers. The study establishes the influence of jazz upon Henri Tomasi, André Jolivet, Eugène Bozza and Jacques Ibert in their works for solo trumpet. Idiomatic elements of jazz style are identified and discussed in terms of performance practice considerations for modern-day trumpeters.

Ivory crepe sleeveless dress with belt. A) Dress: wool crepe sheath with V-neckline front and back. Sleeveless with triangular shaped armholes. Center back opening with three ivory colored buttons and three tailored buttonholes. Two covered snaps and a zipper from waist to hipline. Waist level seam across back. Fully lined in white silk. Designer's label stitched beneath the right armhole: "Givenchy / Made in France" Handwritten couture tag underneath designer's label: "No. 80931" B) Belt: matching ivory wool crepe belt with functional covered square buckle. White leather backing.

Pants open with two hook and eye closures and a hidden button above left pocket. c) Coat of magenta feathers. Lined in sheer red organza. Ensemble of ivory cotton lace top and ivory knit skirt. A) Top of ivory lace in a large flower and vine pattern with a boat neck and bracelet sleeves; raw edges all over with reinforcement only at neckline; A-line; ends at hips. Evening ensemble of black satin, silk and velvet. A) Halter top of black velvet. Center front closure of 9 hook & eyes on interior and 4 snaps and 1 hook & eye on exterior. Three stitched tucks on each side of opening. Back peplum curves sharply away from center front. Lined in black silk with black silk petersham. Designer's label at center back: "Yves Saint Laurent / rive gauche / Made in France / Paris" Evidence of tags cut from base of designer label. B) Full length ball gown skirt gathers in 1" satin waistband. Skirt creates harlequin effect with alternating diamonds of velvet, satin and moire silk. Hem trimmed with silk box pleated and bound in the center with narrow black velvet band; hem has dotted net hanging 2" below. Left side zipper closure with two hook & bars on waistband. A work concerning the history of the Paris Conservatoire and music education in France. Follows the development of the horn and its correlation with the French school of horn playing. Includes biographic information on the horn professors of the Conservatoire through 1997, as well as a comprehensive list of the morceaux de concours for horn, 1795-1996.
