Transcription: Description of fishing with fish traps

This is a description of how fish traps are used to catch fish. Three main kinds of traps are described: longdip, made of rocks; nakung, a raised sieve after a dam to catch fish; and ngatong, a bamboo tube. The fishermen discuss how the traps are designed and placed, how fish are collected from them, and beliefs/taboos surrounding fishing. They also describe fishing practices followed in other villages, like using poison to kill fish or shooting them with small arrows.

Transcription and translation of the recording of Raja Jamsheed Ali Khan narrating the story of "Maghlot ke Girkits" ('weasel and rat') in the Srinagar dialect. In this popular story two boys are born conjoined, and are separated by a knife. The two brothers are raised by two separate clans, always meeting in constant contention with each other, giving them the nicknames Maghlot ('weasel') and Girkits ('rat') for their physical and behavioral traits. Knowing the brothers would create instability, the king separates the kingdom into two halves, creating the divide between the Hunza and the Nagar people

This is a narrative about how the Vzeu dance originated, recorded in Myitkyina. The Vzeu dance started when people wanted to express gratitude, so they imitated the butterflies and eagles. The speaker is from Krangku originally, but had moved to Putao several years before the time of recording. He also briefly describes the different beliefs and dances of groups in surrounding areas.

Transcription of Knao buu then (My Children's Food) as told by Daniel Tholung. This is a traditional story for children. This version was prepared by Sumshot Khular, Tony Khular, Joseph Khullar, Rose Khullar, Moses Sankhil, and Mangboi Tholung during a workshop in October 2005 under the guidance of SIL literacy experts at Bosco Reach out, Guwahati, Assam, India. The voice that we hear is that of Daniel Tholung, recorded at UNT in 2009. The transcript was translated with the assistance of Sumshot Khular at UNT in 2016.
