The conference was held to bring attention to Suzanne Hildebrand's profane use of racial slurs against Clinton Jefferson, a San Antonio law enforcement officer, and perhaps her equally racially motivated attacks against judge Benjamin Samples.

The OUED claims that both have not held their officers accountable for various instances of police brutality and violence.

Mailgram letter from Mario Marcel Salas, Rick Greene, and John Sanders of Organizations United for Eastside Development, to Ed Cheviot, general manager of KMOL-TV. They write the day after a press conference was held to discuss racist remarks by Suzanne Hildebrand. They blame Mr. Cheviot for sending a panel member who was rude, insensitive, and walked out during the conference.

[Letter from Bruce to Sterling Houston - November 3, 1986]

Letter, Christmas card, and photograph from Bruce to Sterling Houston, prominent San Antonio playwright. In his letter, he writes that it was great to see him perform. In the card, he discusses seeing Karen Finley perform on stage and making gingerbread houses to bring to an AIDS ward. In this same card, he has also included a photograph of (presumably) himself wearing a Santa Claus hat and embracing three large dogs. Behind him, on a wooden drawer, two colorful gingerbread houses have been placed.

Unpublished newspaper copy for an article to be headlined "Black Civic Groups Wants [sic] to Honor Veteran Journalist" about the efforts of the Jackson, Mississippi chapter of The Links, Inc. to raise funds to assist Hazel Brannon Smith. Smith was a publisher and journalist who won a Pulitzer Prize for her editorials in support of the civil rights movement, a stance which resulted in her ostracism from local white society and her newspaper's eventual bankruptcy. Aaronetta Pierce (referred to here as A. M. Pierce) passed this unpublished copy of the article on to Margaret Winn, president of the San Antonio chapter. Includes handwritten notes.
