Useful amendments include the improvement of the function of "moving and regulating the feeding of cotton to the gin and the ejection of refuse, hulls and chaff." (lines 13-15). This is accomplished with the addition of a mechanism that "at regular intervals, close the feeder, open the gin breast and discharge the hulls and waste and again close the gin and open the feeder." (lines 37-40).

Cotton Cleaning and Extracting Machine.

Patent for an apparatus that improved the cleaning process for machine-processed boll cotton. The invention made it possible to extract more lint cotton from closed bolls which were typically unharvestable by traditional machine-based cotton gins. The machine also improved success in late fall or winter cotton harvesting by allowing bolls containing hard-to-reach cotton to be processed.

This design is for a double buckle, "of such a construction that secure fastenings may be obtained, and the two ends of a strap or the adjacent ends of different straps may be readily secured together in a reliable manner, thus admitting of the speedy manufacture of sets of harnesses" (lines 13-18). This eliminates the need for rivets or stitching the strap(s).
