Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Leilani Lattin Duke, director of the Getty Center. McCarter writes that he has reviewed the draft of the National Arts Standards, paying close attention to the implication for aesthetics in art. Describing his recent trip to Canada, McCarter mentions that many presentations encountered the same problems in identifying common traits found in art. McCarter continues to say he does not see the dilemma in using the word aesthetic as it means various things to different people.

In regards to an invitation Harreld had received from Harold M. Williams, President of the J. Paul Getty Trust, to attend a dinner on January 12, 1995 in connection with the Getty Center's national conference. Duke is writing to give more information on the conference, which is being held from January 11th - 14th at the Washington Hilton and Towers in Washington, D.C. The three day conference will feature speakers from business, education, government and the arts.
