Testing and the Process of Change

Students were tested on how they responded to art, if they valued art as a medium, how skillfully they produced art and how much history they know. By collecting the date it was possible to make claims about the status of art teaching.

A Plan for the Operation, Funding, and Services for the Arts in Texas. Texas Commission on the Arts. Revised September, 1988.

A booklet that outlines and details the plans and organizational structure for providing funding and services for the arts in Texas, as provided by the Texas Commission on the Arts. The booklet is sectioned into six sections. Section I gives an overview of TCA, their purpose, structure, principles, and legislation. Section II details types of assistances which include financial assistance, ineligible activities, informational service, technical service, and mandated services. Section III is about financial assistance eligibility and discusses application procedures, funding limits, contracts, civil rights compliance, contacts, acknowledgments, evaluations, and emergency procedures. Section IV synthesizes organization eligibility. Section V details financial assistance programs. These include organizational assistance, project assistance, touring assistance, and visual art touring. Section VI discusses the review process and list criteria for panel review, staff evaluation, advisory panels, and more.

Contract for Services between Texas Commission on the Arts and University of North Texas, September 1, 1989.

A contract for between the Texas Commission on the Arts and the University of North Texas for services that include grants and funding for the North Texas Institute of the Arts. The contract is split into six sections. Section 1 establishes the parties in the contract, TCA and UNT. Section 2 is the equal opportunity statement. Section 3 is the contract period. Section 4 is the obligations of service provider, UNT. Section 4 also states that UNT will produce an evaluation report within 30 days following the termination of the contract. Section 5 states the obligations of the commission, TCA. Section 6 is the payment by commission which states that TCA shall pay to UNT the amount of its liabilities specified in section 5. Section 7 is the amendments and changes.

In Connecticut, Moving Past Pencil and Paper

A newsletter, Education Week, Editorial Project in Education, Vol. 9, No. 1. "In Connecticut, Moving Past Pencil and Paper, Teachers Evaluated On Class Behavior." Fifty-five educators were learning a new language of assessment, and the new assessments for teachers and students were pioneered in Connecticut. Connecticut introduces what is said to be the nation's most rigorous assessment of entry-level teachers. The assessment will be administered, six times a year, to new teachers. The implementation is a new form of measuring how teachers perform the complex tasks of their profession.
