Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter and Nancy Cason, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Chad Woolery, Deputy Superintendent of Dallas ISD. Appreciating the concern shown by the DISD's administration and the school board about preserving the visual arts program in Dallas Public Schools. McCarter and Cason write that Dallas is one of six consortium districts participating in the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, NTIEVA, program. NTIEVA provides intensive summer institute training in discipline-based art education for elementary principals, art specialists, classroom teachers, and museum educators, while also assisting the implementation of integrative art programs during the school year. Public schools such as, T.D. Marshall, Colonial Learning Center, Lida Hooe, Maple Lawn and Sidney Lanier have sent teams to the summer institute program, along with other schools in attendance as well. McCarter and Cason finish the letter with how successful their institute is, writing that they've served a total of twenty elementary schools, impacting 500 teachers and 12,500 students, and that they're excited about their partnership with Dallas.

Document reads: This concerns the possibility of hooking up with Nebraska’s state renewal conference via telecommunications on Monday, February 21 and Monday, March - , from --. We can receive satellite programs via a downlink on top of Chilton, provides the Nebraska are using a frequency we can get (Sharon said that we can get most of them). If we reserve the space way -- -- -- -- --, we can reserve one or both classrooms that[they] are adjoining, I think, seating 45 – 90 people, and have access to audio communication with Nebraska via an 900 telephone located in the room. Two TVs are in each room for viewing. We -- -- able to tape the program, but that will depend on the ---. Sharon explained that the satellite set up in media library is just for receiving. The only production capabilities are with TAGAR ---. She wasn’t sure what the possibilities are there.

North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts and the University of North Texas welcomes Nancy Berry, with a one-year appointment, who graduated with degrees in both art history and art education. Berry has a rich-background in museum education and will become an invaluable asset to the Art Department.

Consequently they need materials from Edwards by October 15, 1991 in order to insure continuation of a third year funding from the Getty Center. Included in the letter is a list of materials needed from Edwards, and finalizing points about how the Summer Institute will work.

In order for the Getty Institute to continue their grant to NTIEVA, McCarter and Davis write that they need materials from Caloss that they've written out in details through the rest of the letter. Enclosed with the letter, is a draft of a letter McCarter and Davis need from Caloss, to modify to suit his style.

McCarter and Cason would like to remind Fletcher of upcoming "renewal" sessions for the 1990 and 1991 Institute participants and other art specialists belong to the district. The first event will be held October 19th, at the UNT Art Department to discuss practical ideas on talking with kids about art and ways of introducing art history to children, however, they will be unable to pay the teachers to attend these renewal sessions but a lunch will be provided.
