Patent for an invention that provides "a single structure in which the air-brake pipes will be simultaneously coupled with the coupling of a car" (lines 14-17).

Patent for a new and improved bedstead. This design "consists in the provision of adjustable hangers for mattress-supports" (lines 12-13). To this end, it consists, "with the side and end rails having vertical mortises or grooves, the cap-plates covering the upper ends of the grooves or mortises and having threaded apertures, and a mattress-support, of the hangers respectively comprising the vertical shank or body seated in the grooves or mortises of the rails, and the horizontal branch extending inwardly from said shank or body and having a slot to seat the side and end bars" (lines 83-93).

Patent for a new and improved conveyer. This design consists, "with the track, of a carriage mounted thereon having inclined and curved points at opposite ends, guides with flaring lower ends connected at the sides of the carriage, and rollers journaled in said guides, and means connected to the carriage for operating the same" (lines 15-20).

Patent for a new and improved carrier iron for draw-bars. This design "is to provide an improved draw-bar support exceedingly strong and durable in construction and very cheap and simple which will prevent spreading of the draft-timbers or sagging of the draw-bar and which can be reversed" (lines 19-24). It consists in "[t]he combination, in a car, of the draft-timbers, the draw-bar between the same, and the loop-shaped carrier-iron in one piece embracing said timbers and passing above and below and supporting the draw-bar and secured to said timbers by bolts" (lines 78-83).

Patent for a "combined rake and portable baling-press, the objects in view being to provide a machine of the above class of comparatively cheap and simple construction and adapted to rake, elevate, deliver, pack, and bale hay and to apply the binding wires to the bales as formed in one continuous operation" (lines 8-15).

Patent for a new and improved wire stretcher and fastener. This design consists in "[t]he combination of a bar constructed of metal and provided at one end with a claw and having its other end bent at right angles to form an arm provided with a slot or bifurcation forming prongs, one of the prongs being longer than the other, the stud secured to the bar on the side opposite the arm and arranged adjacent to the same and forming a hammer-head, and a handle arranged on the same side of the stud and located adjacent to the claw" (lines 55-65).

Patent for "a device of the character set forth adapted for application to buggies, carriages, sleighs, and other Vehicles and arranged adjacent to the dash, and when not in use the several parts are folded and the device entire detached and placed endwise under the seat 'and behind the cushion-fall, the parts being simple and effective in their construction and operation, strong and durable, and easily and readily handled and applied" (lines 14-24).

Patent for an insecticide specifically for insects that burrow into the shucks of corn. "The general object of my invention is to provide a compound capable, when affected by moisture incidental to the sweating of the corn in the crib, of generating a poisonous gas which will permeate the shucks and reach and destroy the insect within the shucks, where it cannot be destroyed by simply sprinkling the corn with a poisonous powder or solution" (lines 17-25).

Patent for a new and improved type. This design "relates to printing, and more especially to the type used therein; and the object of the same is to provide a substitute for the large wood type now extensively used on poster and other large work. To this end the invention consists in a type-face and a type-base each of metal" (lines 7-13).

Patent for a new and improved bug sprayer. This design consists in "[t]he combination of a base, a bellows mounted thereon, a receptacle arranged in advance of the bellows and adapted to contain poison to be distributed, a forwardly-projecting discharge-tube, laterally-extending discharge-tubes comprising inner rigid sections, outer rigid sections having series of discharge-nozzles, and flexible couplings connecting the rigid sections, and the braces having their inner ends pivoted to the base and their outer ends pivoted to the outer sections and supporting the same" (lines 75-86).

Patent for "improvements in dumping locomotive ash-pans which will not only effectually and tightly hold the ashes within the same until it is desired to dump the pan, but also to provide means whereby the requisite draft can be obtained and constantly supplied to the fire in regulated quantities" (lines 10-16).

Patent for "a platform-binder in which the needle or cord-carrying arm is placed below the deck of the platform and the cord-tying mechanism is placed above the deck of the platform, and the needle being so arranged as to pass beneath the upper plate of an ordinary platform five or six inches in depth and to receive the grain and to compress the same without the assistance of any packers or specially-operated packing mechanism" (lines 8-18).

Patent for a grain-binder that will "first, to construct a needle in sections, and to construct mechanism to curve said needle in position to a proper curvature to conform to the sheaf to be bound at the beginning of the binding operation, and to again straighten out said needle at the end of the binding operation, so as to pass beneath the upper deck of the platform, so that the grain can be shifted direct from the grain-receiving platform on the needle by a suitable conveyer invented by myself and patented February 17,1891, No. 446,473, thus dispensing with all packing and elevating and receiving mechanism, thus promoting simplicity and cheapness of the construction of such grain-binders; second, to construct a simple, light, and durable clutching mechanism to connect and disconnect the binding mechanism with the harvester or conveyor gearing; third, to construct a simple gear-shifting mechanism to impart reciprocating movement to the conveyer, and, fourth, to construct a light and simple locking mechanism to lock the gear-shifting mechanism in position after being shifted to the desired position" (lines 15-40).

Patent for an improvement to scrapers so that "the handling of the scraper-bowl to load, convey, and discharge the dirt may be accomplished with little or no labor on the part of the operator" (lines 14-19).

Patent for new and improved suspenders. This design consists, "[a]s an improved article of manufacture, the vest and drawers holder . . . consisting of the main bar having the arm bent downward from its upper end and provided with a clasp for connecting with the drawers, the main bar being also provided near its upper and lower ends with safety-pins for connection with the vest" (lines 60-67).

Patent for "a pump that is simple, durable, and efiicient, which can be manufactured at a comparatively small cost, and which can be readily cleaned and repaired. It consists, preferably, in a double-cylinder pump that is adapted to operate by a direct lift without a valve in the plunger" (lines 8-15).

Patent for a new and improved padlock. This design "has for its object to provide an improved lock which, while simple in construction and operation, is at the same time so constructed as to be proof against the possibility of picking by unauthorized persons, and one which when unlocked will automatically release itself from the object and which locks of itself when sprung together" (lines 7-15). It consists in "a locking-lever pivoted at its center in said casing and provided with a locking-pin at one end, adapted to engage the shackle-perforation, [and] a leaf-spring arranged within the casing" (lines 1-5).

Patent for a notation which provides "a sheet in which the tones in their successive order of degrees by septenaries comprising the limit of the human voice from low to high pitch or from base to treble will be graphically indicated, and also to furnish a means whereby mechanical transposition of the notated characters may be effected" (lines 14-20).

Patent for a new and improved sulky-plow. This design consists, "with the frame of the carriage and the axle of the furrow-wheel, of an inclined perforated portion or device, the washers or collar-like devices arranged on either side of the part and penetrated by the axle of the wheel, and means for clamping together rigidly the combined parts" (lines 70-76).

Patent for a "cheap, simple, and durable nut-lock which will be efficient to prevent a nut from working loose on a bolt, to prevent the bolt from turning in its socket, and to also permit the bolt to work or play slightlyin its socket to yield to the movement of the rails when a train is passing" (lines 20-26).

Patent for a new and improved surface cattle-guard. This design "compris[es] a series of parallel triangular bars tapered at their ends and provided with lateral perforated horizontal flanges, the plates to which said flanges are secured, the cross-tie supports, and the solid plank flooring upon which said ties rest, said flooring being some distance below the guard-bars" (lines 55-62).

Patent for an improvement to gates so as "to simplify and improve the construction of swinging gates and to enable the same to be readily operated without necessitating a persons leaving a vehicle or dismounting" (lines 9-13).

Patent for "freight-car which shall be simple, strong, durable, and comparatively inexpensive in construction, and which shall, by virtue of its attachments, be capable of instant transformation from a car for transporting grain, cereals, and similar loose substances in bulk toa car for transporting miscellaneous dead freight" (lines 17-24).

Patent for a new and improved smoke and spark arrester and consumer. This design consists, "in a locomotive having a transversely-divided front extension, of a box over the forward compartment, a deflector at the bottom of the box and upper part of said compartment and having its edges spaced therefrom to permit communication between the two, a stack extending upward from the rear or smoke compartment and discharging through an elbow into the top of said box, a stack leading from the top of box in front of stack and of greater diameter than the latter stack, and the pipes" (lines 24-36).
