Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory geothermal program in northern Nevada
The Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory's geothermal program began with consideration of regions where fluids in the temperature range of 150 C to 230 C may be economically accessible. Three valleys, located in an area of high regional heat flow in north central Nevada, were selected for geological, geophysical, and geochemical field studies. The objective of these ongoing field activities is to select a site for a 10-MW demonstration plant. Field activities (which started in September 1973) are described. A parallel effort has been directed toward the conceptual design of a 10-MW isobutane binary plant which is planned for construction at the selected site. Design details of the plant are described. Project schedule with milestones is shown together with a cost summary of the project.

Multiplicity Distribution from Coherent Interactions of Protons with Nuclei in the Energy Range 20-GeV to 200-GeV
The experimental data on the charged particles multiplicity distribution from the diffractive coherent reactions of protons with nuclei at incident momenta 20.8, 50, 67, and 200 Gev/c are presented and discussed. the comparison with the corresponding data from the diffraction dissociation in proton-proton interactions was made. It is shown that the diffractive processes have a universal character.

Some aspects of micro-drill technology
Providing research equipment for the many and varied projects at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory leads to interesting machining requirements. One of these is the need to drill very small holes, and in a variety of materials. Holes down to 0.001 in. in dia, approximately 12 dia deep, in brass, steel, stainless steel, copper, gold, plastics, uranium, etc., are not uncommon. This paper discusses methods of sharpening microdrills down to .001 in. in dia and some results obtained with their use. (TFD)
