Patent for improvement in fire-arms by arranging a hair-trigger on to a fire-arm that have a guard and a trigger without alternation of the interior mechanism of the gun-lock; it is not necessary for the application of a fly in the hammer to prevent the catching of the trigger in the rest-notch of the hammer. Patent for a new and improved tie for bales. This design calls for one long, flat piece of scrap metal to be folded over on itself twice so that there are four layers of metal as well as a loop (or "rib") on either end. Then, a hole should be cut through all four layers with a tapered opening through the edge; this design is cheaper and more durable than previous bale ties.

Patent for a new and improved tongue-support for vehicles. This design "is to provide a spring for bearing downwardly upon the rear end of the tongue, and thereby raising and supporting the front end thereof, to relieve the horses' necks of the weight of the tongue, and thereby enable them to draw the wagon more readily, and with less exertion" (lines 23-29).

Patent for a new and improved motor. This design consists in "[t]he combination, of a clock-work mechanism, of the spring-shaft, the screw geared thereto, whereby the said screw will be rotated simultaneously with the spring-shaft, the friction-drum, and the brake-bar bearing on the said drum and engaging the screw" (lines 90-95).

Patent for the invention of a new and useful improvement in Tamping-Machines. Includes full, clear, and exact description and illustration. Invention relates to an improvement in machines for tamping, intended for tamping dirt under railway-ties (20).

Patent for a new and improved telephone. This design "consists, first, in a set of U-shaped elastic magnets adapted to be supported by the head of the person sending and receiving messages, the end of said magnet or magnets connecting the receivers . . . second, in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the transmitter attached after the manner of a swinging bail to the receivers . . . third, providing supports for the telephone when not in use" (lines 32-43).
