Time-of-use electricity price effects: Connecticut
Under time-of-use rates, higher prices are charged for electricity used during those parts of the day when demand and system costs are higher, with lower charges when demand and system costs are lower. In the Connecticut project, 200 customers of the Connecticut Light and Power Co. were placed on a seasonal time-of-use electricity rate from 10/75 through 9/76. Electricity consumption patterns of the experimental customers on the time-of-use rate and control group on the existing (declining block) rate showed that during the summer months the experimental group used less electricity during the peak and intermediate periods without any corresponding increase during the base period. Overall consumption during the summer months was reduced for the experimental group. By contrast, during the winter months the experimental group used significantly more electricity than the control group during the base period and considerably less than the control group during the peak period. Usage was about the same for both groups during the intermediate period. The experimental group's shifts in usage from peak to base period offset each other, so that overall consumption during the winter months was about the same for both the experimental and the control group. The diversified demand of the residential …

Identification of hazards in non-nuclear power plants. Volume II. Phase II
This study extends the Phase I study to also include a hazards evaluation for two new emerging coal power plant technologies: coal fired atmospheric fluidized bed and pressurized fluidized bed power generating systems. The study also considers the sensitivity of the hazards ranking for all the non-nuclear power plants to the effects of population density, mode of plant operation, technical changes, location and environmental (temperature) effects. Information is provided under the following section headings: background; environmental and public health concerns associated with fluidized-bed combustion power plants; description of a conceptual atmospheric fluidized-bed power plant; pressurized fluidized-bed combustion combined cycle (PFBCC) power plant; hazard ranking and risk assessment for non-nuclear power plants; and, hazards sensitivity analysis.

Technical Data Summary -- Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility coprocessing case. Revision 1
This revised Technical Data Summary (TDS) provides basic technical data, including product and equipment requirements and process description for conceptual design and cost estimate studies of a reference facility. The facility will fabricate fuel assemblies for light water reactors (LWR) from (U-Pu)O{sub 2} feed coproduced from spent LWR fuel. The Fuel Fabrication Facility (FFF) will be located within an integrated LWR uranium-plutonium reprocessing complex consisting of facilities for fuel storage, reprocessing, conversion, refabrication, and waste processing. The conceptual design and cost estimate of the FFF is part of a general design integration study (DIS) to define an optimized system to dispose of spent LWR fuel. The reference process for the DIS was changed from separate processing of plutonium to coprocessing. In coprocessing, plutonium from reprocessed spent fuel is not available in a separate stream. The main product of coprocessing is a mixture of UO{sub 2} and PuO{sub 2} that is suitable as feed for the FFF: a separate byproduct of uranium is also obtained. In the FFF, the (U-Pu)O{sub 2} coproduct is fabricated into pellets, encapsulated into rods, and assembled into bundles for refueling LWRs. The objective of the Technical Data Summary (TDS) is to provide the technical data required …
