[Bills of Sale of a Slave Named Nancy, June 18, 1838]

Bills of sale of a slave named Nancy. The initial bill was written by notary William Christy in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jacob Sevy is selling Nancy, approximately 15, to John Covington Thomas of Gainsville, Alabama, for $1,200. Handwritten bills are added explaining that John C. Thomas sells Nancy to James Chessher in August 1838 for $3,000, who in turn sells her to Stephen Jackson of Jefferson County, Texas, in 1840 for $1,000. A separate paper is included with a description of this document.

Schreck is seated next to his wife, wearing a dark suit, and has his left hand on son Alfonso's shoulder; Alfonso is also wearing a military uniform and holding a bugle; Leo is similarly dressed and has a bow across his back. There is a painted woodland scene in the background, and the family is standing on an animal skin rug. The reverse side of the photo contains two handwritten notes; the first says: "Matamoros, June 3d, 1899 To our dear sister Mrs. Anna B. Schreck and her dear and sweet family, as a token of sin-cere affecton. Frank Schreck and Ursula Fuente[...]r Schreck." The note in the lower-left conrer says "Oct. 5-, 1956. To my cousin E. E. Schreck, Leo. M. Schreck."

Photograph of a group of thirteen men standing in front of a Texaco gas station. The men stand in two rows. The first row features three men in suits and a fourth man in a shirt and bow tie. The second row is primarily composed of men in white shirts and ties, with the third and eighth man wearing suits. Behind them, the Texaco station flies a Texaco and United States flag side by side. A single pump can be seen just behind the group, and a Texaco shaped like a question mark is further to the right. A body of water can be seen in the right background. The reverse side of the photograph identifies Fred P. Dodge as the person on the far right of the front row.
