Letter from Tony Campos to John J. Herrera asking for Herrera's support for Frank Pinedo's re-election as National President. Campos is Pinedo's campaign manager and is asking Herrera to give the supporting or closing nomination speech. "In your hands you have the future of LULAC." Campos also writes to catch up and let Herrera know of how he is doing in Lubbock, Texas. "I am doing o.k. I got two secretaries. Not bad, eh Johnny [...] You know yourself Johnny...that when the people of Mexican descent need us, sometimes we have to sacrifice our personal life in order to help those who mostly need help."

Letter from Manuel G. Vela to John J. Herrera requesting Herrera's support for the nomination of his friend Oscar Laurel from Council Number 12 of Laredo, Texas for the office of President General of the League. Vela writes, "may I be permitted to respectfully request your aid and influence in behalf of my personal friend Oscar Laurel." Towards the bottom of the letter, there is a portion in Spanish that reads: "...please command me. As they say at the border, I request this of you as a man and as a good friend, and remember that one favor with another favor is repaid."

Onionskin paper carbon copy of letter from John J. Herrera to Felix Tijerina, League of United Latin American Citizens Texas Regional Governor, expressing his feelings towards Tijerina. "I harbor no ill-feelings towards you, Brother Oscar Laurel, any member of the Houston Lulac Council or any Lulac member [...] I was honor bound to support Brother Frank Pinedo and that I did it under the dictates of my conscience." Herrera goes on to express his loyalty to LULAC and reinforces that the ultimate goal is to make a successful leading Organization for "our" people in the United States.

Herrera expresses that he spoke on behalf of Frank Pinedo at the LULAC election in Galveston and was "honor-bound to follow the dictates of my conscience." Herrera writes that he supports both the elected National President Oscar Laurel and Texas Regional Governor Felix Tijerina.

Herrera apologizes for not congratulating Laurel at the moment that the counts were completed and he had been elected. Herrera explains, "I know that you understand why I had to help Brother Pinedo under the circumstances [...] a man must follow the dictates of his conscience." Herrera also expresses to Laurel that Laurel can count on Herrera for sincere cooperation and in any other way that Herrera can assist Laurel throughout his administration.

Herrera writes that he supports Felix Tijerina as his council had been instructed to vote for Felix but his loyalty would be to Frank Pinedo. Herrera congratulates Campos on the formation of two councils and expresses his desire to see Campos at the National Convention.

Letter from Frank Pinedo to John J. Herrera thanking Herrera for his loyal support and for the nominating speech he made at the National Convention. Pinedo also writes to Herrera about his thoughts on the election of the new National President. "I am disappointed but have concluded that I was beat by the manuevering an machinations of the Laredo group at the Convention [...] but since Laredo won't do anything for our League I am looking forward to the day when we can recapture our organization."

Letter from Oscar M. Laurel to John J. Herrera thanking Herrera for the congratulatory letter. Laurel accepts that Herrera supported who he needed to support during the election, but is glad to count Herrera as a supporter during his administration.

The letter lists an agenda and informs members to think about the agenda items and to offer comments at the meeting.

Letter from Stanley Valadez, Executive Director, League of United Latin American Citizens Pennsylvania to John J. Herrera requesting information about activities in the Southwest. Valadez suggests that LULAC be established as a national organization. Valadez mentions in the letter the enclosure of a copy of a letter sent out to members to inform of LULAC activities in Pennsylvania.

Funeral program for Mrs. Emma Branch. The funeral was held Saturday, June 4, 1955 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. E. A. Smith. Funeral arrangements were made through Sutton-Sutton Funeral Home and she was buried in City Cemetery No. 3 in San Antonio, Texas.

LULAC News, Volume 22, Number 12, June 1955. This publication contains information relating to LULAC activities and news affecting the LULAC community. On page 14 of this publication, there is a feature of John J. Herrera titled "John J. Herrera direct descendant of Texas Hero." The article is a single column and shows a picture of John J. Herrera at the San Jacinto monument laying down a wreath in honor of the "great contribution that was made by the Latin Americans of Mexican descent in winning the Independence of Texas." According to the article, Herrera was part of the Sons of the Republic of Texas due to his relation to "Pedro Herrera, who fought at San Jacinto, Blas Herrera of Bear County in San Antonio, who was a scout for Sam Houston, and Fransisco Ruiz, alcalde (mayor) of San Antonio during the Texas Revolution, and one of the two native Texas who signed the declaration of Independence."
