Oral History Interview with Ray Robinson, June 25, 1979

Interview with Ray Robinson regarding his experiences in the military and as a prisoner of war of the Japanese during World War II. He was part of the Texas National Guard, 36th Division, 131st Field Artillery, 2nd Battalion, also known as the "Lost Battalion." He was captured on the island of Java in March of 1942 and spent the duration of the war thereafter as a prison of war in camps in South East Asia and in Japan.

Photograph of the Schmitz Hotel, a three-story white building that has a full-length porch and balcony across all three floors that has square posts with plain capitals and latticework railings across the upper floors. The building has a flat roof with a decorative roofline over the main building and an extended, slightly gabled roof over the balcony with saw-tooth edging along the eaves and dentils along the bottom, as well as the name of the hotel written in blue lettering near the peak. The buildings on either side are partially visible, including a two-story building at right, with an extended second floor creating a porch that has decorative rackets at the top of the posts and the sign “Winegar Sports” over the porch entrance; the building at left appears to be three stories, with solid siding over the upper floors, which also overhangs the sidewalk in front. Cars are parked on the street in front of the buildings at parking meters.
