Appendix To What We Can Learn From Each Other: International Archival Pedagogy Conversations and Collaborations

This is an appendix to “What We Can Learn From Each Other: International Archival Pedagogy Conversations and Collaborations,” a manuscript that was inspired by a collaborative workshop at the 2023 institute of the Archival Education and Research Initiative (AERI). The lively workshop discussion revealed both how much the participants all had in common, and how much they had to learn from each other. Their discussion highlighted how disconnected and geographically siloed archival education programs still continue to be, despite opportunities for international collaboration between archival educators. With this issue in mind, workshop participants decided to continue their conversations past the AERI 2023 meeting as part of an investigation of current pedagogical practices, teaching needs, and future goals of archival educators in a variety of settings. They met on Zoom and then corresponded asynchronously for a discussion of the structures of their archival education programs, their students’ needs, their teaching goals, how they respond to challenges in their virtual and physical classrooms, and how they can leverage this and future collaborations to benefit both their students and the archival education field as a whole. Automatic trend detection: Time-biased document clustering

This article presents a novel approach of introducing a weighted temporal feature to bias a topic clustering toward articles in a similar time frame, performed over a set of finance journal abstracts from 1974 to 2020 to demonstrate how time can be emphasized in trend detection. The authors detect trending finance topics that are not identifiable when we use a standard clustering approach with no temporal bias.

Collaborative Research: Diversifying Human-Centered Data Science through the Research and Design of Ethical Games

Data management plan for the grant, "Collaborative Research: Diversifying Human-Centered Data Science through the Research and Design of Ethical Games." This project studies collaborative learning in a virtual setting for groups of peers with conflicting methodological cultures and diverse backgrounds. An additional artifact of this two-year, interdisciplinary project will be a prototype of an educational game, targeted towards the underrepresented communities and the greater public, that will bring more people into critical conversations about the roles of AI and data science in our society. The primary aim of this research is the production of novel theories in learning sciences regarding collaborative learning in the face of diverse backgrounds and cultural norms.

Communicating the risk of contracting Zika virus to low income underserved pregnant Latinas: A clinic-based study

Article is a study using cross-sectional methodology to investigate information sources and knowledge concerning the ZIKV virus among 300 under-served pregnant Latinas recruited from prenatal care clinics in the North Texas region. Bivariate and multiple logistic regression models are used to investigate associations between the primary outcomes and patient characteristics.

Computational modeling of human reasoning processes for interpretable visual knowledge: a case study with radiographers

Article proposing a computational method to quantify and dissect visual reasoning. The method characterizes spatial and temporal features and identifies common and contrast visual reasoning patterns to extract significant gaze activities. The visual reasoning patterns are explainable and can be compared among different groups to discover strategy differences. Empirical observations show that the method can capture the temporal and spatial features of human visual attention and distinguish expertise level. By revealing task-related reasoning processes, this method demonstrates potential for explaining human visual understanding.
