Mental Illness and Youth-Onset Homelessness: A Retrospective Study among Adults Experiencing Homelessness

This article retrospectively evaluating the association between the timing of homelessness onset (youth versus adult) and mental illness as a reason for homelessness among homeless adults living in homeless shelters and/or receiving services from homeless-serving agencies in Texas and Oklahoma. A better understanding of these relationships could inform needs for early interventions and/or better prepare agencies that serve at-risk youth to address precursors to youth homelessness.

Underlying Ossification Phenotype in a Murine Model of Metastatic Synovial Sarcoma

This article presents the analysis of genetic mouse models of synovial sarcoma to determine the extent of ossification in the tumors and its relationship with morbidity. The authors noted higher ossification within their metastatic mouse model of synovial sarcoma. Their conclusion is that both metastasis and ossification are dependent on time, but that they are independent of one another.

Prolate and oblate chiral liquid crystal spheroids (open access)

Prolate and oblate chiral liquid crystal spheroids

Article examining the palette of morphologies that arises when microdroplets are deformed into nonspherical shapes in a controllable manner. Specifically, geometrical confinement and mechanical strain are used to manipulate orientational order, phase transitions, and topological defects that arise in chiral liquid crystal droplets. The reported structures and assemblies offer potential for applications in smart coatings, smart fabrics, and wearable sensors.

Dynamic Shear Deformation of a Precipitation Hardened Al0.7CoCrFeNi Eutectic High-Entropy Alloy Using Hat-Shaped Specimen Geometry (open access)

Dynamic Shear Deformation of a Precipitation Hardened Al0.7CoCrFeNi Eutectic High-Entropy Alloy Using Hat-Shaped Specimen Geometry

The article reports on the shear deformation of a eutectic structured HEA and effect of precipitation on shear deformation, particularly Al₀.₇CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy (HEA). A split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) was used to compress the hat-shaped specimens to study the local dynamic shear response of the alloy. The change in the width of shear bands with respect to precipitation and deformation rates was studied. The precipitation of L1₂ phase did not delay the formation of adiabatic shear bands (ASB) or affect the ASB width significantly, however, the deformed region around ASB, consisting of high density of twins in fcc phase, was reduced from 80 µm to 20 µm in the stronger precipitation strengthened condition.

[Dataset Paper Mould Version 2]

3D dataset model of a hand papermaking mould consisting of three parts: a mould frame, a mould surface, and a deckle. In this version (v2), the mould frame and the mould surface are printed separately and can be fastened together with common sheet metal screws. The user will need to print all three files to have a complete papermaking mould. The resulting 3D printed model will replicate the historical artifact used in Great Britain and parts of Europe in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with slight variations. This papermaking mould is functional and can be used to cast a 4 ¼ x 5 ½” sheet of paper. While the size of sheet this mould produces is small, the mould frame, its ribs, and the deckle are full size as found in larger traditional European papermaking moulds.

[Dataset: Paper Mould Version 3]

3D dataset model of a hand papermaking mould consisting of three parts: a mould frame, a mould surface, and a deckle. This version (v3) is the same as version 2 in that the mould frame and the mould surface are printed separately, but the holes in V3's mould frame are larger in diameter to accept a heat set threaded insert and machine screws are used in place of sheet metal screws. The user will need to print all three files to have a complete papermaking mould. The resulting 3D printed model will replicate the historical artifact used in Great Britain and parts of Europe in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with sight variations. This papermaking mould is functional and can be used to cast a 4 ¼ x 5 ½” sheet of paper.
