A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Omar Burleson, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated July 5, 1972. Burleson expresses his appreciation for Carswell's letter and kind comments noting their agreement on the need to maintain the Nation's security. He advises of the so-called Revenue Sharing proposal passing the House, of his vote against it and of the enclosed copy of dissenting views he filed with the Committee. An enclosure includesd a document titled "Additional Dissenting Views of Honorable Omar Burleson," a discussion by Burleson of a bill that he introduced in 1969 and again in 1971 to decentralize two programs bogged down with red tape. The Committee's bill does the opposite by compounding the existing over-centralization and costing the taxpayer. Good government is economical and efficient and provides services desired by the people.

Announcement by the Departments of North Carolina and South Carolina regarding their endorsement of the candidacy of Roy McMillan for National Commander of the American Legion. Attachments include: Handwritten note from Jim [J. M. Caldwell to T. N. Carswell] requesting cooperation and support.

A letter written to "Doll" [T. N. Carswell] from Peg [Peggy Anne Carswell], dated November 5, 1942. Peggy outlines her expenses and describes her job delivering dry cleaning while in school. She describes her job prospects for the summer.

A letter addressed to Honorable Francis B. Sayer, U. S. High Commissioner, Manila, Philippine Islands, from T. N. Carswell, For the Committee, Committee on Americanism, American Legion, dated December 5, 1941. The letter discusses the promotion of a "What is Americanism?" campaign. The campaign is defined as "seeking more light in the form of a contribution", the contribution being the answer to the question, "What is Americanism?". The answer will then be used "to help stimulate an American Revival comparable in results to the periods of the Revolution, the Making of the Constitution, and the Civil War" stressing that the country's destiny depends on these answers.

A letter written to Mr. R. N. Richardson, President, Hardin-Simmons University (Abilene, Texas) from T. N. Carswell dated April 5, 1945. Carswell addresses Richardson as "Governor" and advises of the attached suggested organization/committee plan for the Million Dollar Campaign for Hardin-Simmons University then congratulates Richardson on his election as the university's president. The attachment includes a suggested organization plan, titled "A Million Dollar Enlargement and Improvement Campaign for Hardin-Simmons University; one of several proposed additions to the campus is a Museum and Archives Building."

A letter addressed to the Superintendent, Public Schools, Blackwell, Okla. from T. N. Carswell, dated June 5, 1965. Carswell explains his concern for Dr. Cyrus N. Ray as in need of institutional care and requests assistance in locating his family. The reverse side includes business letterhead of Little Tuffy Mfg. Co. A Division of Abilene Machine Co., 1342 Pine Street, Abilene, Texas and bears Assurance Opaque Parchment watermark.

Carswell requests that Allen Carswell destroy this letter after reading whether or not he sees fit to use the suggestion in whole or in part. T. N. expresses his enjoyment of their last visit confiding that he felt they were more like brothers than ever before. He offers options for Allen regarding the land handed down to Allen from their mother.

A letter written to Dr. White from T. N. Carswell dated October 5, 1947. Carswell advises White that he thinks White is "the only man for the First Baptist Church in Abilene" and asks him to consider, or reconsider, the situation here and there insisting that there is both a need and an opportunity for White in Abilene. Carswell discusses his belief that HSU is bound to the fundamentals of their Baptist faith and precepts more than any other denominational school and fears the period of expansion and development at HSU could result in its breaking away from the truths "so forcefully catalogued in the James B. Smmons Foundation Agreement" only to then follow the route so many denominational schools have gone. He urges White to come to Abilene because only he, as Pastor of the First Baptist Church, can wield that "necessary and Christ-loving influence to hold and keep HSU on its true course".

A letter written to Governor Shivers, from T. N. Carswell, dated December 5, 1953. Carswell advises that he has enclosed a news story of a Democratic (so-called) meeting held in Abilene. He advises Shivers that to carry on they must have him and another good man as candidates for Governor and U. S. Senator emphasizing that "Texas and the Nation are in need of you!"

Carswell expresses his pleasure for Mrs. Radford on the decision she made in a memorial gift in Mr. Radford's name to McMurry College [Radford Auditorium]. He briefly summarizes the man and the service by J. M. Radford and Mrs. Radford to the city of Abilene.

Carswell advises Knowland of his concern regarding the pardon application for Parolee 17,095 not having reached the governor's desk and requests Knowland's assistance.

Report and recommendation for executive clemency for Subject OSP 22,624. Carswell refers to the attached letter of Subject's own appeal for executive clemency stating his approval of the request both in his "official capacity and personally".

A Western Union telegram sent to Major B. L. Maloney, San Antonio, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, General Chairman dated April 5, 1941. Carswell discloses plans that both the reservations and the reception are to be at the Wooten Hotel.
