Manganese Deposits in the Artillery Mountains Region, Mohave County, Arizona (open access)

Manganese Deposits in the Artillery Mountains Region, Mohave County, Arizona

From abstract: The manganese deposits of the Artillery Mountains region lie within an area of about 25 square miles between the Artillery and Rawhide Mountains, on the west side of the Bill Williams River in west-central Arizona. The richest croppings are on the northeast side of this area, among the foothills of the Artillery Mountains. They are 6 to 10 miles from Alamo. The nearest shipping points are Congress, about 50 miles to the east, and Aguila, about 50 miles to the southeast. The principal manganese deposits are part of a sequence of alluvial fan and playa material, probably of early Pliocene age, which were laid down in a fault basin. They are overlain by later Pliocene (?) basalt flows and sediments and by Quaternary basalt and alluvium. The Pliocene (?) rocks are folded into a shallow composite syncline that occupies the valley between the Artillery and Rawhide Mountains, and the folded rocks along either side of the valley, together with the overlying Quaternary basalt, are broken by faults that have produced a group of horsts, grabens, and step-fault blocks.

Radioactivity at the Jim Kane Mine, Mohave County, Arizona (open access)

Radioactivity at the Jim Kane Mine, Mohave County, Arizona

Abstract: About 2,000 tons of low-grade lead ore has been produced from the Jim Kane mine, near Kingman, Mohave County, Ariz. A 3-foot vein of gouge and siderite stringers in pre-Cambrian gneiss contains some lead and, locally, is abnormally radioactive. A sample of the vein contained 0.067 percent uranium. Abnormal radioactivity is restricted to a small part of the vein, and no reserves are calculated.

Preliminary Report on Uranium-Bearing Deposits in Mohave County, Arizona (open access)

Preliminary Report on Uranium-Bearing Deposits in Mohave County, Arizona

Abstract: Preliminary studies of the Wallapai Mining District and selected properties in the Maynard and Greenwood Mining Districts, Mohave County, Arizona, from January 8 to March 8, 1953, were made to determine the extent of uranium mineralization. All of the uranium properties examined are of the vein type and are believed to be of mesothermal origin. Brecciation and porosity of the veins appear to be controlling factors in the concentration of uranium minerals from the ore-bearing solutions. Although the uranium minerals present in these districts have not been specifically identified, they appear to be mostly primary with very minor occurrences of secondary products. One exception is the State mine in the Greenwood District, where secondary minerals predominate.

Mineral Investigation of the Lime Hills, Narrows, and Sand Cove Wilderness Study Areas, Mohave County, Arizona

From introduction: During 1981 the Bureau of Mines conducted a field investigation of the Bureau of Land Management's Lime Hills, Narrows, and Sand Cove Wilderness Study Areas (WSA's), Mohave County, Arizona as part of a joint effort with the Geological Survey to make a mineral survey of the area. Surface workings and outcrops were examined and samples taken from rock sections that appeared to represent most of the mineralized area. Complete analytical results and sample descriptions are available for public inspection at the Bureau of Mines, Intermountain Field Operations Center, Building 20, Denver Federal Center, Denver, Colo. Part of the area also was examined and sampled in 1979 by L. W. Hamm, Bureau of Mines (Villalobos and Hamm, 1980), during a mineral resource study of the Paiute Primitive Area.
