Patent for improvements in newspaper-holders by using a long metallic “piece bent at its upper end to form a spring and a means of suspension for the holder, and also bent at its lower end to form a similar spring and a hand-grasp, an upper and a lower loop connected to the bent ends of the metallic piece, and a retaining-tongue pivotally connected to the lower loop and having a hooked end for engaging the upper loop” (lines 82-89) to hold the newspaper. This design "is adapted and designed to be laid upon a table or placed in the usual rack or suspended by a hook, and . . . it may be held in one hand by means of its handle at the base while perusing the paper" (lines 17-22). It consists, "with a standard formed at or near its upper and lower ends . . . with a suitable perforation extending through the same from the back to the front thereof, of springs arranged upon the back of the standard, one near each end thereof and each formed at its free end with an eye" (lines 22-28).
