Common Bermuda Grass Established Pasture
Photograph of a 26 acre field of common Bermuda grass established by planting 2 lbs. of hulled Bermuda grass seed with 100 lbs 10-20-10 fertilizer per acre in shallow furrows on a well prepared cultipacked seedbed (7-OH-B-3-III). Two months after seeding date, Mr. Mabry reports 26 head of 2 and 3 year-old white face cows are grazing this new Bermuda planting at this date and it is carrying them. Mr. Mabry plans to overseed the field in the fall of 1955 with big hop clover when the field is well established with underground root stolons. He plans to overseed fall swon vetch and small grain to maintain soil fertility and for supplemental pasture. One ton of lime per acre was applied to improve legume growth.

Improved Range
Photograph of a heavily timbered area that was in poor range condition. Early June 1955 tow pounds of Kuron (propionic acid) per acre was applied by aero plane. All vegetative growth of shrubs and trees was controlled on 90 % of the shrubs and trees. A definitive percentage of tree kill could not be determined at this time but a tremendous growth of primarily little bluestem can be observed even directly underneath the trees. An excellent seed crop was produced by this area which was completely deferred from grazing during 1955. Soil Unit 12-RP is the prevailing soil type.

It furnished little erosion resistance and in all probability will have to be grown in strips with erosion resistant crops. More information is needed on the residual effect due to depletion of subsoil moisture.
