The map includes major cities, roads, and geographic levels (relief shown with hachures). All of the counties are drawn in and labeled. Lines included marches up the Mississippi River to St. Louis; travels between numerous forts, camps, and barracks in Texas; similar trails among the plains and Rocky Mountain military posts; a line from New York to Havana to Panama then to San Francisco; and marches in New Mexico and Arizona, including a march from Fort Yuma to Tuscon and Fort Buchanan along the Mexico-United States border.
