AI reference LMFBR steam-generator development (open access)

AI reference LMFBR steam-generator development

The Design Data Sheets summarize the key parameters being used in the design and analysis of the AI Prototype LMFBR Steam Generator. These Data Sheets supplement SDD-097-330-002, Steam Generator System, 1450 psi Steam Conditions. This document will serve as the baseline design data control until a GE/RRD approved steam generator specification with ordering data is received.

Measurement of earth medium electrical characteristics: techniques, results, and applications

An overview of measurement techniques, measurement results, and factors influencing the conductivity and dielectric constant of earth medium is given. Application of these measurement techniques to geophysical investigations is also discussed. (auth)

Experimental investigation of a superconducting niobium X-band deflecting cavity and suggestions for the design of the deflectors for a superconducting rf beam separator at NAL (open access)

Experimental investigation of a superconducting niobium X-band deflecting cavity and suggestions for the design of the deflectors for a superconducting rf beam separator at NAL

Design considerations for a deflecting cavity intended for a superconducting rf beam separator at NAL are reviewed. The design parameters given are based on an investigation of a 7-cell niobium test deflector operating at 8.665 GHz. Peak magnetic field of 740 G, corresponding to a peak electric field of 25 MV/m, and an equivalent deflecting field of 6.9 MV/m were obtained. (auth)

Determination of absolute fission cross section ratios using the method of threshold cross sections (open access)

Determination of absolute fission cross section ratios using the method of threshold cross sections

Fission cross section measurements for a collection of uranium and plutoninm isotopes are presertly being made at LLL by using the 100-MeV electron linear accelerator as a pulsed source for neutrons. The cross sections are measured as a function of neutron energy from 15 MeV down to thermal energy by using the time-of-flight technique. For neutron energies above 1 MeV, a new method for determining absolute fission cross section ratios is used. This method, called the method of threshold cross sections, gives absolute fission cross section ratios without the need for determing the absolute masses of flssionable material within flssion chambers. An explanation of the threshold cross section method is given, and an example is cited for the absolute ratio sigma /sub f/(238): sigma /sub f/ (235) above 1 MeV. (auth)

Correction coil for random magnetic field errors in a superconducting storage accelerator (open access)

Correction coil for random magnetic field errors in a superconducting storage accelerator

Some considerations are given on the relative size of the random nonlinear field errors in the magnets of a superconducting storage accelerator and of a conventional warm accelerator. A possible correction coil is presented for the random field errors in the magnets of a superconducting storage accelerator. This correction coil consists of 24 conductors spaced equally around a circle, 12 of which can be independently excited. Each conductor can carry a maximum current of 1000 A, and has the dimensions of 0.32 x 0.008 in. for a 40-kG magnet with a 4-in. aperture. (auth)
