None of the known deposits is of present commercial significance and therefore this study emphasizes the genetic rather than the economic aspects.

From abstract: The Happy Jack mine is in the White Canyon area, San Juan County, Utah. Production is from high-grade uranium deposits in the Shinarump conglomerate of Triassic age. The Shinarump strata range from 161/2 to 40 feet in thickness and the lower part of these beds fills an eastward-trending channel that is more than 750 feet wide and 10 feet deep.

Geological Survey in the White Canyon area, San Juan County, Utah, from May 1 to October 28, 1952, The objectives of this work were to study the habits and character of uranium deposits in the area, to determine control and guides to ore and suitable areas for physical exploration, and to map and study the ore-bearing and adjacent strata to determine the regional geologic controls and habits of the uranium deposits, The White Canyon project is part of a regional mapping program on the Colorado Plateau being conducted by the Geological Survey on behalf of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission.

From abstract: The Indian Creek (UT-060-164), Bridger Jack Mesa (UT-060-167), and Butler Wash (UT-060-169) Wilderness Study Areas are located in San Juan County, southeastern Utah. Inferred subeconomic resources of sandstone and sand and gravel exist within all three wilderness study areas, but because of their abundance throughout the region, their distance from current markets, and their lack of unique properties, these materials have no current likelihood for development.

Mineral Resources of the Behind the Rocks Wilderness Study Area, Grand and San Juan Counties, Utah

Abstract: The Behind the Rocks Wilderness Study Area (UT-060-140A) consists of 12,635 acres in Grand and San Juan Counties, Utah. The study area has inferred subeconomic resources of potash and halite in the subsurface, and sandstone on the surface. The study area has high potential for undiscovered resources of oil and gas, low potential for undiscovered uranium, copper, vanadium, gold, silver, other metals, and geothermal energy, and unknown potential for the rare-earth mineral, braitschite. There is no resource potential for potash or halite (beyond the previously mentioned inferred resources) or for coal.

From abstract: Elk Ridge is in southeastern Utah in the central part of San Juan County. It forms a conspicuous ridge on the north end of the Monument upwarp. During the summer of 1953 field work was largely restricted to South Elk Ridge, that part of Elk Ridge which is south of The Notch. Permian and Triassic sedimentary rocks crop out in the area and Jurassic and Cretaceous rocks are exposed east of the area.

Reconnaissance for Radioactive Material in the Shinarump Conglomerate at Balanced Rock Anticline, San Juan County, Utah

Abstract: A reconnaissance for radioactive minerals in the Shinarump conglomerate of Triassic age exposed north of the San Juan River at Balanced Rock anticline was made in July 1953. The purpose of the reconnaissance was to search for any exposed uranium minerals and to determine the favorability of the Shinarump for accumulation of uranium-ore deposits. No uranium minerals or places of abnormally high radioactivity were observed. However, nine exposed channels at the base of the Shinarump conglomerate and other channels, probably present where the base of the Shinarump is concealed, indicate the Shinarump may be favorable for uranium-ore deposits.

The Tiger claim is recommended for exploration by diamond drilling to obtain geologic information on the trend, length, depth, and width of the scour channel, and the relationship of uranium and copper minerals to the Shinarump-filled channel and to fractures.
