This investigation is a study of the issues involved in the disputed cases pertaining to the Oil Refining Industry which were certified to the Eighth Regional War Labor Board serving Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana during World War II.

In this study the activities contributing to the welfare of the farmers of Denton County will be confined to the experiment farm or station and the county extension service. These two educational agencies have proved that adult education can be very successful. Although there is no direct relation between the two, most of the information learned in experimental research is imparted through the extension service.

The purpose of this investigation is to determine whether or not Denton County gained or lost from the construction of Lake Dallas from the tax valuation standpoint.

In this thesis, the author examines the theory that competition in the oil industry is "unworkable" and looks at the development and current status of monopoly in the oil industry to determine whether or not monopoly is workable.
