- Pretreatment Optimization of Fiberglass Manufacturing Industrial Wastewater
-
Thesis or Dissertation open accessWastewater effluent produced in the fiberglass manufacturing industry contains a significant amount of total suspended solids. Environmental regulations require pretreatment of effluent before it is discharged to the municipal wastewater treatment plant. Chemical precipitation by coagulation and flocculation is the method of pretreatment used at the Vetrotex CertainTeed Corporation (VCT). A treatability study was conducted to determine conditions at which the VCT Wastewater Pretreatment Plant could operate to consistently achieve a total suspended solids concentration ≤ 200-mg/L. Jar tests varied pH, polymer dosage, and ferric sulfate dosage. Total suspended solids and turbidity were measured to evaluate treatment performance. The data …
- Leukocyte Subset Changes in Response to a 164-km Road Cycle Ride in a Hot Environment
-
Article open accessThis article determines the circulating leukocyte subset response to completing the 2013 Hotter'N Hell Hundred recreational 164-km road cycle event in a hot and humid environmental condition.
- Effectiveness of a Single Prolonged Aerobic Exercise Session on Executive Function Task Performance in Physically Active Adults (21–70 Years of Age)
-
Article open accessAuthors of the article sought to examine the effectiveness of an acute prolonged exercise session on post-exercise executive function in physically active adults and to assess if age or pre-exercise cognitive performance was predictive of the magnitude of change in executive task performance. Their results support the effectiveness of a single prolonged exercise bout to augment executive function in physically active adults, irrespective of age.
- Predicting Northern Bobwhite Habitat in Semiarid Rangeland Using LANDSAT Imagery
-
Paper open accessThis paper discusses a classification on 4 LANDSAT scenes of Clay County, Texas, from July and December 2015 to identify bobwhite habitat in subhumid and semiarid rangeland.
- Impact of Nutrient Intake on Hydration Biomarkers Following Exercise and Rehydration Using a Clustering-Based Approach
-
Article open accessThis article investigates the impact of nutrient intake on hydration biomarkers in cyclists before and after a 161 km ride, including one hour after a 650 mL water bolus consumed post-ride. Most predictor groups showed significant association with at least one hydration biomarker: (1) Glycemic Load + Carbohydrates + Sodium, (2) Protein + Fat + Zinc, (3) Magnesium + Calcium, (4) Pinitol, (5) Caffeine, (6) Fiber + Betaine, and (7) Water; potassium + three polyols, and mannitol + sorbitol showed no significant associations with any hydration biomarker. The authors conclude that in a real-life scenario, some nutrients may serve as …
- Acetylcholine-Containing Neuroepithelial Cells in Fish Gills Support the Cholinergic Hypothesis of O2 Chemoreception
-
PaperThis paper discusses research on how acetylcholine-containing neuroepithelial cells in fish gills support the cholinergic hypothesis of O2 chemoreception.
- Modelling spatial concordance between Rocky Mountain spotted fever disease incidence and habitat probability of its vector Dermacentor variabilis (American dog tick)
-
Article open accessThis article reports on the development and comparison of two maps of Texas related to Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
- Interspecific Differences in Metabolic Rate and Metabolic Temperature Sensitivity Create Distinct Thermal Ecological Niches in Lizards (Plestiodon)
-
Article open accessThis article examines three congeneric lizards from the southeastern United States (Plestiodon fasciatus, P. inexpectatus, and P. laticeps) and hypothesizes that interspecific differences in metabolic temperature sensitivity locally segregates them across their total range.
