The problem with which this study was concerned was that of determining of climatic circumstances significantly affect personality development.

The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the students' perception of the College Advisory Program and its relation to his personality patterns. A secondary purpose was to investigate the Faculty Advisors' perception of the College Advisory Program. An additional outgrowth of the study was an attempt to obtain descriptive data for improving or altering existing Advisory Programs.

The present research studied the differences in student characteristics and perceptions of the college environment between junior college students classified in three ways: level of satisfaction with the college environment, educational classification (transfer or terminal student) and sex of student. Secondary problems of the study were the following: 1. To determine the relationship between students' ratings of satisfaction with the college environment and perceived self-college similarity. 2. To determine the relationship between students' potential for dropping out of college and perceived self-college similarity and college-ideal college similarity. 3. To determine the difference in mean scores of satisfaction with the college environment between transfer and terminal students. 4. To construct profiles of male and female transfer and terminal students based on responses to a guidance questionnaire.

The purpose of this study was to compare a group of successful and unsuccessful pupils who were in the fifth and sixth grades. It was the purpose to make comparisons between these two groups in terms of (1) school achievement, (2) mental ability, (3) personality, (i|) pupils as perceived by teachers and peers, (5) pupils' perceptions of teacher and school, (6) self perception, (7) school attendance, and (8) socioeconomic status.

The problem of this study was to analyze the answers given by four groups (grade levels) of elementary school children and one group of adults (college freshmen) to direct questions regarding natural phenomena, to classify their explanations, to determine the methods and types of explanations used by these groups when they explain typical natural phenomena, and to compare these findings with the results of other investigators, especially Jean Piaget and Mervin E. Oakes.

The problem of this study was to develop a proposal for the teaching of poetry for the purposes of contributing to the student's understanding and enjoyment. Surveys and summaries were made of scholarly writings on the junior college student, existential theories of education, and theories of poetry. A bibliography was constructed for each subject from resources of the North Texas State University library. Conclusions from each survey were derived from the selected resources and used to prepare the proposal for instruction of poetry.

The purpose of this study was twofold: (1) to discover some social and economic factors concerning the home background of the ninth and twelfth-grade students during their first and last years of high school; and (2) to study the physical status of these groups for the year 1949-1950, noting the development of each group in order to discover the relationship, if any, of social and economic status upon school marks of the students in the two grades.

The purpose of this study is the development of an educational simulation game for use in college classes. The simulation game is based on selected aspects of the population problem. The panel approved or rejected objectives on the basis of their significance as goals for college students. Twelve objectives were approved by a majority of the panel. Upon completion of the exercise, students should be able to compute population increases, to predict population sizes, and to identify birth and death rates that cause a population to increase, decrease, or remain stable. Students should also be able to describe how the following factors affect population size: cultural and religious beliefs, pressure for economic growth, investments of capital, and financial losses. Students should understand the problems of governing a country with a rapidly growing population as compared to problems in governing a country with slower population growth, and they should recognize how rapid population growth can affect the quality of life. Students should recognize decreased birth rates, increased death rates, and increased economic production as possible solutions to the population problem. Finally, students should personalize the population problem and make commitments in seeking and participating in its solutions.

The purpose of this study was to make an assessment of the probable effects of extraneous stimulation on both cognitive achievement or learning, and emotional reactions and autonomic arousals of students. While the focus of interest was upon possible disruptive effects, the kinds of measurements projected would make it possible to observe some effects of either kind, disruptive or facilitative.

This study was concerned with making a comparative analysis of the relative effectiveness of two teaching methods in increasing students' (a) knowledge and understanding of principles, (b) ability in critical thinking, and (c) science reasoning and understanding in an introductory college zoology course. The two methods were (a) a laboratory-centered inductive-deductive method and (b) the more commonly found deductive-descriptive method organized as a large lecture section with smaller laboratory sections.

The problem of the present investigation was to study the soundness of guidance practices in a metropolitan high school approximately one year after the initiation of a program of guidance services. The purposes of the study were: 1. To determine to what extent the objectives of the guidance program were met. 2. Although in 1915 there was no drama education in Methodist colleges and universities in Texas, today all Methodist schools of higher education in Texas have at least course offerings in drama. Southern Methodist University was one of the first Methodist schools to offer such courses which began with the hiring of Mary McCord to teach public speaking in September, 1915. The problem of this study is to explain the contributions of Mary McCord to the development of drama education at Southern Methodist University. It is recommended that the development of the department after Miss McCord retired be examined, that the students taught by Miss McCord who chose theatre as their life's work be interviewed about the effect of her training on their careers, and that a thorough study of the McCord Theatre Collection be undertaken.

This biography of Prince Elmer Shotwell particularly emphasizes his contributions to Texas interscholastic athletics, to the University Interscholastic League, and to the Texas High School Coaches' Association. Data for this life study are from both primary and secondary sources, human and documentary as well. Shotwell's personal files and scrapbooks are used extensively, and supplementary data come from biographical data forms and tape-recorded personal interviews. The study includes biographical data of Shotwell's youth, educational background, marriage, and his endeavors in the teaching and coaching fields.The study discloses that Shotwell made contributions in various modes throughout his more than fifty years in the profession. Most of his professional endeavors were superimposed by his consistent personality traits of enthusiasm, industry, intensity, and persistence.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of two methods of teaching the social studies to junior high school pupils. An attempt has been made to ascertain the relative progress in the studying efficiency of a group of children in social studies taught by the basic-study-skills plan, as compared to that of a group of children taught by the assign-study-recite-test plan so commonly employed.

The problem with which this study was concerned was to identify employment status of the 1964-1971 industrial arts majors who graduated from the colleges and universities in Texas. Specifically this study analyzed the status of the following industrial arts graduates: those with and without teaching certificates, those in educational employment, those in industrial employment, those who had changed their employment from education to industrial or self-employment and vice versa, and those who returned to campus for further studies.
