The effects of commitment, commitment with rational justification, and an educational technique on smoking behavior with college students

Eight groups of approximately ten college students each who smoked at least one package of cigarettes a day were observed for two 30 -minute sessions a week for a 5-week period. During the treatment session, students either made commitments not to smoke during post-treatment sessions, made commitments along with reasons, only gave reasons why they should not smoke, or made no statements.

Chamber Theatre: Ban Analysis, Adaptation and Public Performance of The Country Husband by John Cheever

The purpose of this oral interpretation thesis is to explore Chamber Theatre as a medium for production. John Cheever and his work are analyzed, an explanation of Chamber Threatre is given, and Cheever's short story "The Country Husband" is adapted in Chamber Theatre script form, and a public performance is rehearsed and presented. It was discovered that students gain critical insight and understanding of narrative fiction through Chamber Theatre script form, and a public performance is rehearsed and presented. It was discovered that students gain critical insight and understanding of narrative fiction through Chamber Theatre and that Cheever's work is very well suited to the Chamber Theatre medium due to its rich narrative qualities.

Compliance-Gaining Among Anglo and Mexican-American Children

This study investigates compliance-gaining rhetoric among Anglo and Mexican-American fourth graders in three schools in north Texas. The children were asked to respond to a scenario and to give a rationale for their persuasive strategies. An analysis of interviews with 52 children indicates that although the children used some similar strategies when attempting to gain compliance from an adult, there are also some significant differences between the two cultural groups.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of aspirational and dissociative reference group influence on consumer behavior. There are two ways in which behavior is influenced by reference groups. First, reference groups influence aspiration levels and therefore play a major role in producing satisfaction or frustration. Second, reference groups influence kinds of behavior, i.e., they establish approved patterns of behavior.

The purpose was to investigate attitudes of successful full-time performing classical singer-actors toward career concerns of the music profession. Five research problems were formulated to: (1) describe attitudes toward control of work conditions; (2) describe attitudes toward entrapment; (3) describe attitudes toward dependency; (4) report attitudes concerning current practices of training the solo singer; and (5) identify commonalities among the subjects regarding demographic, the attitudes described in problems one through four, and demeanor during the interviews.
